Plebe Parents Weekend 2020

Count six weeks after I-Day. PPW will start Thursday of that week and go through Sunday. (Have you checked the USNA website? Probably listed in the master calendar.)

We just had this same topic in a recent thread, but darned if I can find it.

Here’s the ac calendar from USNA.edu; you should bookmark USNA Calendars.

I would GUESS PPW is the 6-9 Aug timeframe; that’s the 6-week mark. The next weekend is the last before Reform (the Brigade returns) and plebes will be moving into company areas and ac year rooms, getting books, etc.

I just checked the master calendar. Capt MJ is right. Plebe Parents weekend will be August 6th through the 9th. I believe the first time the plebes will have liberty is on the 7th. The Plebe Parents Weekend Formal Parade is at 0830 on the 8th.

Also, the Sponsor-Plebe meet and greet will be on August 2nd at 1330. That will also be the day of the last phone call home before Parents Weekend.

If the trends from past years continue this will be the schedule for when the plebes are given liberty (allowed to leave the yard) during parents weekend.
August 7th: 1200-2359
August 8th: After the Formal Parade (1000ish)-2359
August 9th: 0800-1800.

I hope that helps with Parents Weekend Planning!

Thank you @Temple17
I’m bookmarking this.
I don’t think the public-facing sites are updated yet, but I haven’t checked them today.

Quick question, if your parents are sponsoring you, will you meet them on the 2nd? Thanks

Yes, I believe if you parents are your official sponsors you can see them on the 2nd. However, having parents as sponsors is often discouraged. One of the biggest privileges sponsors get is the ability to drive on the yard but parents get driving privileges anyways. So, if you have a family friend or random sponsor that would ever want to drive on the yard and pick up your mid it would be a good idea to make them yours mids sponsor.

Side note: Sponsor families are a huge blessing!

Haven’t you met them before?
Couldn’t resist, sorry. [emoji16]

This is an interesting question. Your parents, being your parents, don’t necessarily have to go through the sponsor training and registration. They are family in the immediate area. But - if they are thinking about sponsoring other plebes, they can register at the link below and attend one of the training sessions. The training familiarizes sponsors with applicable parts of Mid Regs, emergency numbers, do’s and don’t. They can then attend the sponsor meet and greet on 2 Aug. The meet and greet has all the plebes in the upper areas of Alumni Hall, seated with their companies. Sponsors come onto the playing floor to the registration tables and pick up the printout with their list of plebes and companies. Sponsors then go collect them and have some time to visit and swap info.

USNA sponsor info, check out hamburger menu on left.

Thank you so much for this information! I've been looking all over for it.

Thank you so much for sharing this!! This brings me much joy! We are still waiting to see if DS gets an appointment but since I am a planner, I like to know as much information as possible in advance. This brings me joy because his birthday is 6 Aug! Now, we continue to wait anxiously for an appointment.

> I didn't know Parent's could be sponsors, but frankly never gave it any thought. However, one off the cuff thought-- If you are sponsoring your own kid, I would think twice about "jumping the gun" on PPW by visiting your kid for the Sponsor meet and greet. That's obviously not the reason for the event. My recommendation would be to ask your detailer as the event nears, with full disclosure that the sponsor is a parent, and follow their guidance.

Just adding in first hand information on parents as sponsors... our 2023 plebe had a roommate from the area whose parents have been sponsors before and went through sponsor training again. They are their son's sponsors by his choosing and it has worked out great for them. On the day of the sponsor meet and greet, our plebe's sponsor family was out of town so they "took in" not only our son but a few others as well. It was a nice break and the familiarity was a wonderful respite (with a little snack) for an hour for our son. Of course, the parents/sponsors cleared it beforehand and the plebes cleared with their company leadership and nobody discouraged it. It beat the alternative of the few plebes sitting unaccompanied in the stands of Alumni Hall. The biggest reminder is let your plebe have the freedom to choose.
Also, happy to share IDay and PPW experiences and accommodations based on our personal experience. Feel free to DM me.
