Ok, 30 day countdown to I-day has begun.......what should be placed in my soon-to-be-plebe's 1st care package to help with foot blisters and other ailments/troubles from the rigors of Plebe Summer ?

Thanks,

I don't really think its necessary to send any moleskin, band-aids, etc for foot blisters, as I think I remember being issued all that. Antibiotic cream is a great idea though.

For a first package: disposable lighters (2), tide pen, antibiotic cream, picture for the cork board, favorite semi-healthy to healthy foods. I would send this first package in a plastic container too. He/she will need a container to store foods items from the infamous bancroft mice

Why do you recommend lighters? To get rid of Irish pennants??

Sandiegodude & Mids, I'd heard that parents sending the plastic containers should look for boxes similar to a clear plastic with lid shoe storage box. Would you recommend this to be the case or one perhaps smaller due to the limited storage you have?

Lighters are mostly for Irish Pennants. While some use them for shining their shoes, I have always found this practice to be overrated, not necessary, and a little dangerous.

Those work fine. Storage space isn't much of a problem. A plebe will still have plenty of space in his or her room left with just just issue items. You only start running out of room 2/C year when you can start wearing civis and you bring your entire civi closet back with you to the Academy.

But the plastic storage boxes are not a must. A resourceful plebe can use all the shoe boxes from issue as storage. I still have mine from original summer issue and actually packed up some of room in them four years later.

One reason parents send those plastic shoe-box sized containers is that they fit into one of the USPS "flat rate" Express Mail cartons. The cartons are free and can be ordered online for home delivery (!). The larger size tupperware-type containers don't fit in the carton, though they ARE more airtight.

This is the kind of thing that Mid mothers entertain themselves with when they haven't heard from their kids.

Another reason to use the plastic container is for food items. Cliff Bars, cereal bars, powder gatorade - I pre measured into ziplock snack size bags so all he had to do was pour into the nalgene bottle. By using the plastic they should not have any problem with critters....

Mice are regular occupants of Bancroft Hall. Some will find themselves going to "jump school" and others to "dive school. Mids do have fun with critters that they catch!
