I would like to know what the rules are regarding the Plebe Academic Year as far as room phone, cell phone and computer use --emailing and social networking sites. Thank you.:help:

We talk to our plebe regularly via cell phone, email, text, or IM. He communicates with his friends through texting or Facebook. This hasn't been a problem for him. We joke that we talk more to him when he is gone than we do when he is home. When he is here, he is with GF and others.
Keep in mind that this is once AC year has started and they were given computer and phone privileges.

Good to know - do they have long-distance on their room phone?

I have heard there are phone jacks in the rooms, but we just use cell phone.

I do not believe they have Long distance in the room. Mine uses cell phone and does not like to talk in the room as it disturbs the roommates.

Technically, Plebes are not supposed to use their phones during study time in the evening but at least in my Mid's company was not really enforced.

Many Mid's have another email aside from their USNA.edu account to use for personal stuff and leave the academy email for academy use only.

Depends on your company. My company, first semester we could only call home during non=working hours that we weren't in Sports Period or Study period. This meant only from evening meal until 8PM every night.

As far as facebook, don't expect to be able to use it for the first two months or so. Again, depends on your company, but we couldn't have it for the first semester and first two weeks of second semester.

yeah to second everyone else when i went to a cvw april 16-18 i saw several plebes on facebook, using there blackberrys to talk and text. they recommend getting wireless bluetooth headphones so you have the hands to work on the computer; one of them was talking to a classmate while typing down what he was saying at one point.
