Howdy y’all.
I have 5 different local schools‘ AROTC PMS numbers offered on the AROTC application. I have called all of these numbers. 3 will not pickup, and 2 say they will forward my information to the higher command (bc the Secretary pickups). I have been calling them back every 2 weeks for the past couple months with no luck. Do you know the rules on who I can schedule with? Can I just contact any univeirsty’s AROTC unit on my own from a website?

Good Morning, Because many ROTC interviews are being conducted remotely/ via zoom at this time due to pandemic concerns, this year's applying class has the advantage of scheduling PMS interviews with their top choice schools and conducting them remotely. The term "local" in a sense has less relevance as in prior years. I would call the schools you listed in your application, starting with number 1, and ask them if you could meet with their PMS or their designee remotely for this important interview. This too will help you learn more about this program, and the current cadre. Of note that cadres do turn over sometimes, so I would make most "where to go" decisions about the school vs the ROTC program - but it's still good to get info.

Hope that helps / good luck to you and thanks for your willingness to serve.

@Herman_Snerd is spot on. Many if not all ROTC programs are doing virtual classes, labs, and interviews. Most ROTC programs at schools just do not have the space availability to properly distance in their facilities to hold in-person instruction. A lot offer email addresses for PMS's and Command, I would suggest trying to get them (usually via the ROTC website at the school you are interested in) then write them and ask for a "remote" interview session. Explain that you are a prospective cadet/midn and want to know more about the program and requirements to attend. Don't limit your attempts to "local" schools, but try and get the info for your top choices.

I have been successful with 2 of the 3 ROTC programs so far:
  1. For NROTC, I filled out the email form on the Naval ROTC Unit requesting an interview. They emailed me back in one day and I had an scheduled interview 3 days later on a Zoom call with the school I hope to attend.
  2. For AROTC, I found the contact information on the Battalion webpage and wrote him an email. I included a little about me and he called me back in 3 hours. I have an interview with him tomorrow, also at the Battalion my school of choice participates with.
  3. For AFROTC, I emailed the choice school's detachment and she told me the AFROTC HQ determines if you are an interview candidate. I just finished that application today, so I emailed them to inform her and would stay in touch, and in the meantime, I guess I wait and see but will continue to keep on top of my application.
FYI, although I have a particular option in mind, one of the coordinators that happened to one of the ROTC branches told me not to limit any options. For a little extra work, apply to all if available (and at the school I want to attend, that is the case), and then you have lots of options as you continue to figure out what might be the best fit for your career goals. I thought that was good advice, as originally I had only intended to apply to one of the three.

You should hear back from AFROTC within 24-48 hours of completing the application. However, be patient with the interview. My DS finished his application in mid-August and only just heard regarding scheduling the interview.
