I have one question and maybe one problem.

First of all:
Who do you give the Police Background Check form to? The local Precint? Something more specific? I have no idea how the police work (never had a run-in with them :thumb:) so I truly am clueless.

Second:
If I lived in a foreign country, do I need to get a Police Background Check from them to? I lived there from 7th to 9th grade.

(Note: To those who were interested (thanks), I am still working with my school on staying the final semester. Things look good, and I've just got my fingers crossed.)

I brought mine to my local city police station and I also got one from my sheriff (but my RD said you don't need one from the sheriff). Be prepared to pay something (I had to pay a lot for both of mine- but CA is in a budget crisis so they raised their prices on everything...) I am not sure about the foreign country background check- maybe ask your RD.
And, good luck with school! I hope everything works out for you! And congratulations! I-day is coming very fast :)...

The instructions said they wanted all jurisdictions, but I am pretty sure it means where you live now. The Academy will conduct a more thorough background check later, this just gets them started. In my son's case, we live in a rural area, so no city limits meaning we are under the jurisdiction of the County Sheriff and the State Police. So, he went to the county sheriff's office and the state police barracks. They punched his info into the computer, nothing came up, they filled out the paperwork, signed it and put it in the stamped envelope my son provided and mailed it (put it in the "to be mailed" cubby :)) There was no charge, but be ready to pay for the reports.
As far as the foreign country, ask your RD, but I think current jurisdictions would be fine.

yeah i live in san diego and I was told to go from here to there to there and then no this si the wrong place you want these people finally I had to go the San Diego County Sheriffs office soo be prepared for your background check to be a hassle.

Background Check

In the USA, court criminal records are organized by City, County, State, Federal (FBI). Typically, you start a background check by going to the State Attorney General's website, and follow their instructions. (You can call them for specific questions). However, 23 states do not keep a statewide database on criminal records. In that case go to the county website. If you have a form that must be filled out, contact the "Clerk of Courts" of your county, and they will tell you where to mail, or take the form. You can get a nationwide background search online in a few minutes from private background check companies, but that is not valid for the Academy, which requires a government document. Immigration requires an FBI background check, which often takes several months because of a huge backlog.

It appears as though every area/city is doing these background checks differently. Here in Palmdale, CA, we went to the local sheriff's department who printed out their own form showing that our son didn't have any warrants or arrests/record of any sort. We paid $23.00. I am told the USNA does a more thorough background check later. We sent the form to the USNA once completed by the sheriff's department and that was that.

To make sure you do things properly, better call the academy or ask your RD.. They may have different requirement for each situation.. A document from your local sheriff's office might not cut it... it may also vary on residency or state of current residence.. generally online background check are not accepted.. anyway, just ask.. don't do anything until your sure you're doing things right..

It's just a preliminary background check anyway, they will go deeper once you're in...
