I have recently been accepted to the Naval Academy and have accepted my offer. I currently am enlisted and although I already have a security clearance, I see that one of my required actions is to complete a police record check form. Is this something that is just automatically displayed as a required action and do you think I will still have to do this? Thank you in advance for any help.

Just complete the form. Complete the new SF86 if needed as well. When they go to submit for the background check they will find your existing clearance in JPAS but for now do every form they ask for. Don’t skip any and don’t bring attention to yourself you don’t need. Blend in.

The Police Record Check Form, Body Alteration Form, and Proof Of Citizenship are the first 3 things you need to complete after accepting an Offer of Appointment.
There will also be a litany of other forms required for you to execute after you get your PTR package.

We are working on our very first form, police records check, and running into our very first road block: police records check. City police department will not attest to whether DS has any court proceedings. Wondering if we photocopy the form and take it to the courthouse?

And so it begins....

Have you tried the State Police? They probably have an online form to fill out, and a fee to pay for the records check.
You will still have to send in the form supplied by USNA, but more than likely you can get the ball rolling online first.

If USNA wants something from other than the State Police (Sherriff, Local, etc.) they'll ask you for it.

The instructions for the form (at the bottom) also read:
"Some law enforcement offices have policies prohibiting the release of arrest or conviction records, even at your request.
In these cases, ask the law enforcement office to provide a statement of this policy in lieu of the Police Record Check"

The general advice is that you should do whatever the instructions state ...If there is a special process or requirement for prior or current enlisted, Admissions will give you specific instructions. Will some of it seem duplicative and even silly at times...of course, but then welcome to the Navy.

The Navy (and other branches of the military) has to do things en masse- and their is little room for handling issues like this on a individual level. You will often encounter a little personal inconvenience for the greater good.

Our police dept was the same- take it to the County Sheriff dept or anywhere you would go for firearms background check in your area ( that was what I was told by a local police agent & friend- we could not get the Sheriff Agency to mail it as indicated so my son just mailed it along with the other forms.

Hello, my DS completed the 3 items mentioned above. I will look for threads about PTR package, but can you tell me what all is contained in that package and how soon to expect it? We were under the assumption that the BFE had more information inside, but it sounds like DS will await the PTR for additional info and what items to prepare. Thanks

Is it the PRT package? In looking at list of acronyms, I found the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) acronym, but nothing labeled PTR package.

Ds checked his portal, and all his forms were received and they accepted the police record mailed by us.
