I was appointed to class of 2021 recently and I am excited about it. I am wondering if anyone knows what the political atmosphere is like? I consider myself an independent, half liberal half conservative. I'm worried there might be extremists from either side.
Thanks!

Why worry? You will find political extremists everywhere. Your job as an officer will be to lead people of every political stripe, and to form them into a cohesive unit of mutual respect, and deep commitment to duty.

In your high school, do you associate only with those of a political party? What do you do with the other 17 year olds who have not yet formulated their own brand of politics?

Congratulations on your appointment!

I believe that your best source of information on this topic will be from current cadets. I encourage you to contact those cadets that have given you their contact information (I see that cadets have reached out to you in another thread) and ask for their insight and guidance.

My experience, from being young and now being old. Most young people don't care about politics. Most have an opinion on everything, but few get involved politically. Few even vote. I don't think it's until young people have a family of their own and have to pay bills and taxes do they start realizing the importance.

Oh, and once young people start having families of their own, taking little Mary or johnny to soccer practice on Saturday, paying for food, rent, kids clothes, taxes, car payments, doctor bills, etc. that's also when they realize that maybe, just maybe, their parents weren't so clueless and actually knows something.

Dear USAFA Girl...I have been reading your stream of questions...Focus on showing up physically fit and ready to work hard as a team with your classmates to get through your first summer and survive the first year. You will make lifetime friends. Don't worry there will be liberals and conservatives and a range of people in between (you won't meet too many anarchists--why would they want to be in the Air Force) but a lot of people mostly just trying to do the hard work in front of them...coupled with a little bit of sleep deprivation. Also, you will be going to school with a lot of motivated, healthy young people just like you. You will have more in common with your classmates than you can imagine. Good luck. Congratulations.
