I was made the captain of my varsity sports team before my junior year of high school by the coach.
I am currently a junior.
On the portal should I put under "years being captain" 1 year or 2 years? (by the time i graduate high school it will have been 2 years)

Post 1 year for now; never overstate.

When you are in your senior year, you can update the information to make it two years if/when you are still the captain.

When my son started to fill in his info during his junior year, he didn't wat to overstate anything, especially since he did not control what would/may happen by the time his senior year came around.

He updated his file as the situation warranted, and he also provided frequent updates to his MALO and regional coordinator.

It must have all worked as he is a plebe now.

If you are unsure, ask admissions. I believe you are allowed to list information pertaining to your profile if it will inevitably occur. If you are positive you will be captain for a period of 2 years, you may list 2 years. However, if you just email admissions they will tell you specifically what you should do.
