I find myself as of last Wednesday in yet another last minute long term sub job. My honors chemistry kids were stuck and stressing about a pending pre calc midterm tomorrow. It’s a small school. And a small class. Five of them. They were done with work in my class, and their angst was clear.
I text my plebe, sent him an invite to a google meet, turned the camera on and he and his roomie tutored my students for half an hour. It was frickin' awesome. Light bulb math moments for the kids (and they liked seeing him since he was in their student council classes). He and his roommates in a strict ROM paid it forward and helped some small town kids get comfy with some pre calc. It was cool. Technology has so many benefits and can be used for good in so many ways.
technology has it's plusses. And mids tied to a ROM got to have a segue to helping and mentoring. My students loved it.

Bravo Zulu.

As much as we hate to admit it, the forced online platform for much of our events has been great for our NROTC unit (although I'm glad we're back in person now). We can now bring in a much wider variety of guest speakers, because instead of having to fly them out, we just need them to click a link on their computer.

Additionally, if there's ever a reason we can't meet in person in the future (weather, breaks, etc.), it's now an easy move to the online platform. It can be done with under an hour's notice.
