My DD was informed that she may be dis enrolled because she tried Marijuana her senior year after her scholarship interview. It wasn't the Dodmerb questionnaire because at that time she had not tried it. It was a recent questionnaire that she answered truthfully and said she tried it once. Because it was after the HSSP interview is why she is getting in trouble. Please be honest....what are the chances she gets to stay in? Her Colonel said he would recommend a waiver but it isn't up to him. I am at a total loss right now as is with my DD!!!

I know I am going to eat crap for this, but why the hell did she admit to doing wrong especially since she supposedly did it once. Unless there are possible pictures of doing so, I dont see why she would admit to something like this. Everyone is going to save bravo for her honesty at the same time she gets thrown out. I am as honest a person as one could get. I would never steal or purposely hurt someone and 99% of the time I dont lie, but sometimes you have to keep your mouth shut

You're right; you are going to eat crap for that response. There are these little things like honor, integrity, honesty and the ability to look your classmates and instructors in the eye with a clear conscience come into play here. Aren't these traits you would demand of an officer? Not to mention, what would happen if she denied this and it were somehow discovered in the future. I don't think the word honest means what you seem to think it means.

She answered truthfully because that is what she was taught.....even with the Air Force. She said the ironic thing.....she is in trouble for being honest. She is so upset and hating herself right now. She made a stupid mistake 2 years ago before she even showed up to her detachment and now she is paying the price. Yes she could have lied....but she didn't and now she is going to pay the price!

You're kidding right? Chances are it would have been discovered during a security check when they interview friends and families. Who the hell smokes grass alone? People talk. Trust me.. she did the right thing.

It's possible that they intend to put the fear of god in her and then give her a waiver. The fear of god is a good thing. Of course, one doesn't really know.

Remember that when you have kids and expect them to be honest with you....

I can't LIKE this answer enough. Great response!!

I don't think any of us will be able to answer this question for you. She is going to have to sit and wait it out and accept the consequences.

To be honest with you, I would be as well if it was one of my kids. Why would ANYBODY who wants a career in the military or law enforcement even THINK about needing to "try" any type of drug? I know my son want to go into law enforcement at the end of his military career and the department I worked for issues an "automatic disqualification FOREVER" in the hiring process if you used ANY type of drug while in the military. The logic being that if you'll violate the military's stringent policies regarding drug usage, there's probably no policy you won't violate on the job.

That being said, in todays day and age regarding MJ usage, I say she gets to stay in. Props to her for her honesty though.

God bless you. Sometimes raising kids is fraught with anger, astonishment and general head shaking. BUT--she is not in trouble for being honest. She is in trouble for taking a chance and doing something on impulse. Who among us. . . (at least the adults on SAF)

We know (including her) that she is not in trouble for being honest. She is in trouble for a stupid mistake she made that happened 2 years ago before she showed up to school. We all make them...unfortunately hers may cost her a career in the Air Force.

I know I said that earlier and we have adjusted our views. I read it thru and realized I was wrong in saying that she was in trouble for being honest.

I assume the Colonel knows your DD and knows enough about her in the detachment to make his decision to request a waiver. Can't begin to predict if DD gets the waiver, but based on the Colonel's recommendation, I hope she gets it. I really like seeing honesty and courage rewarded.

If she were to be dis-enrolled she can carry her honesty as a badge of honor and at some point, she will be rewarded for it.

God Bless!

What is that old saying , that a five dollars will get her a cup of coffee.

In what world do u people live? I have never met the person who is 100% honest all of time and who has never done anything wrong. Most of us are lucky that we don't get caught doing some stupid act when we were kids . To be punished in a way that affects the rest of our lives is excessive . If you honestly think that everyone who goes to the academies or ROTC is pure, then I have swamp land to sell . We want our officers to be human beings and strive for certain goals . That doesn't mean they are going to reach it or not trip along the way . As for being rewarded for it down the line, anything is possible and then again maybe not .

Congratulations on your daughter's honesty and I don't see the smoking MJ once as a problem. Hell, the FBI/Secret Service are having hard time finding recruits who did not experiment.

I sincerely hope that they overlook her moment of poor decision making and let her learn from her mistake. I am sure most of us are glad that no cell phones or social media existed when we were that age.

The reason why honesty is cherished is that is such a rare commodity these days. Also, when you are in command of a ship/plane/men/weapons; your commanders rely on your honor to accurately lead/report/and execute your mission.

Without honor; you don't have a leader. So congrats to your daughter for doing something difficult by answering truthfully.
