Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

Another question. Are the plebes allowed to leave Annapolis during Parents weekend? In other words, if we wanted to go to DC and go sightseeing, is that allowed as long as we get her back before liberty ends? Just trying to plan…. Thanks in advance!!
Be open to what your plebes want and need.

They may want to lounge in the hotel/Air BnB AC wearing regulation PT gear, taking serial naps, taking a loonngg shower, catching up on social media, watching a movie on an iPad, enjoying take-out from a favorite place, just chilling and talking. The last thing they may want to do is go to DC in August in their uniforms. Or they may want to go to dinner and a movie locally, then be out of their uniforms on either side of that. Be flexible. You’ll have 4 years to have weekend visits involving local area expeditions. For PPW, this is their first non-PS-related solo trip off the Yard and away from the pressure-cooker. Let them decide what method of decompression works best for them, and despite what they think now, confirm it in one of the phone calls later in the summer.

They don’t know what they don’t know.

As @A1Janitor commented, they are free to go with you into DC.

The one thing they they all want is OFF THE YARD! This is not the time to take a USNA walking tour with family members who haven’t seen it.

The first thing my son wanted was a two hour nap in the air conditioned hotel.

We went to DC and liked it - but even if the plebe and family want that, I would caution that if the heat and humidity is brutal, it could be a regret.

Slow pace, good food, relaxing. And be close before time to report back.

They will have "Town liberty," which is defined in Mid Regs. I believe it is a 35 mile radius from the chapel dome. Allows BMore and DC with that.

(We squeak in just under that for our house, so the kid got to come home on PPW. I drove him back and forth each day).

... so the latest AI technology is the smell meter. It can detect smell of varying putridness. Two were posted in the main and side entrances at the mid bookstore. It
can detect plebe funk in three levels:
1. Mild
2. Medium
3. Strong
Since it's the first model, minor adjustments are still required. If in the mid store and you're subjected to plebe funk, there's a way
to neutralize it ( DW mastered this technique ): grab a handful of hair and use it as a gas mask. Also be careful in trying on the cover (Hat). My...

Thanks everyone. This was actually a request of my DD as she has a friend who lives there but I appreciate all of the advice. We’ll take it one day at a time.

Regarding I-day swearing-in ceremony and Bancroft Hall marching-in photos - any chance for a family member to take a favorable position/angle to take long-range pics? I know - just spotting your plebe is a treat, but I have a 900-mm lens (btw is this allowed on the Yard?), and my plebe is tall, so I might have a shot. Any favorable position to attempt such shots from?

While I can’t answer your specific question, I can say that there will be pictures and videos posted online from every angle. There are a few unofficial yard photographers who make it their mission to capture as many mids as possible and post on the mids moms and dads fb page, if you are patient enough to look thru them all. Once you get company assignments, I believe it is 1-16 on the left and 17-30 on the right as you face Bancroft.

Does anyone have a copy of the Covid paperwork? I can't seem to open it on my computer or any of my devices.

I had the same problem. If you right-click on the link, then save link as. You can download the document and should be able to view it.

I have a question -potentially stupid one. Have the PTR letters gone out yet? My DS received the packet but as we went through the checklist, saw the PTR letter item and didn’t see where he received one.. if I recall, this is where you lose your candidate ID # and receive a new # (can’t remember what that new number is called).

Thanks in advance.

Hi! I've seen it noted either in the packet or the website that the official PTR letter with their time to arrive on 6/29 would come a week prior to I day in the mail.

The PTR forms are available online and need to be printed out, completed, and mailed to the addresses in the checklist provide. This needs to be done ASAP. The PTR email with report times for I-Day will come around May 31. The email with alpha numbers, company assignments, and summer mailing address will come the week before I-Day. Any blanks on the firms asking for your alpha or DOD number should just be left blank (unless you’re prior enlisted, NAPS, a military dependent, etc)

Thanks. That is what I thought from last year but last years plebe came from NAPS and this years plebe is coming in direct. Just wanted to be sure.

Thanks. And alpha # was the new number on which I was drawing a blank. Stinks getting old..
