Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

No
It is listed on the academy calendar as 6/29
…as it was in 2020, then Covid. Everything can change, semper gumby always. Hence 99pct.

Also, the calendar is also officially tentative at this point. Across the top, in red. This is a good point to keep in mind going forward, if appointed. Until it finalized, its tentative.

We are waiting to receive his PTR. His BFE should be coming this week. Does that include PTR? We are new to this so don't know.
No brainer for me. Two options: 1) cancel the trip and eat the $1,000 or 2) DS stays home and you go on trip. Either way, DS MUST stay home and prep for induction: paperwork, medical exams, staying fit and in shape, etc. Eating the $1,000 for my kid getting $500K education for FREE, priceless.

Agreed!

Definitely reach out to the airline once he has his PTR. Some airlines seem to understand the military is even less flexible than they are! SWA (who is known to be friendly toward military) recently changed our DS’s ticket at no cost when he needed to report back to the Academy sooner than originally planned. It would be worth a try!

Last year's Iday, around 0830 we walked past Bancroft and we saw parents marking their seats (center group behind plebe seating) with towels. We went ahead and claimed two seats. Around 1500, our towels were moved two rows back. We brought umbrellas because it was super hot that day.The grassy picnic area next to Stribling Walk is full of mosquitoes. An Off repellent spray took care of that.

Read similar stories about moving the towels or whatever one used for marking "ownership". Old military saying: There is at least one turd in every group.

Our kid had a late report so there was nothing without something holding it when we made our way over. Turned out to be lucky - we ended up standing in the front, off to the side and got to see them march on for the swearing in from about five feet away! Had the same kind of luck Thursday night of PPW getting to watch them practice right as we rolled up. Which was really nice after 30 hours of travel due to weather in Dallas. There were a lot of Plebe Parents crashed out at DFW....

Marking with towels does not establish ownership. Park your butt in the seat if you want to save them.
Cannot agree more. I thought it was weak last year and a little shocked USNA didn't prohibit. Was at T-Court 90 mins before oath only to see most seats not with bottoms in them but 'savers'. Family had a nice standing spot where we met and stood next to, and had a great conversation with Bob Peterson and his wonderful wife. If you are not aware of who he is, he is a sponsor parent, but also one of the top USNA photographers.
I think he does the official USNA calendar.

The towels saving the seats, en masse, is a relatively new thing. Didn’t happen for 22. At least en masses as it did last year, due to a class FB moderator suggesting to do it.

I think it’s rude. A jerk move, myself. That favors the early drop offs. I would hope people don’t do that anymore, personally.

BTW, the bleachers, and side yards are exceptional seats as well.

He does his own USNA calendar. Not the official usna alumni calendar. Highly recommend purchasing as his photos are EXCEPTIONAL. FRAME WORTHY directly from the calendar.

He is a photographer, who takes hi res photos all year and posts them, by company, on the class FB, and main FB parent page. Free to download at Will. Such a gift to parents. He captures most Mids. And doesn’t charge for his time or product. Purchasing his calendar and book is a great way to show appreciation. Also, his photos are another reason to join the appropriate FB pages ♥️

My DS is filling out the body alteration sheet. It requires a witness signature. Who qualifies as a witness? He has read the sheet 2x and there is no information on the witness signature part.
Thank you.
Also he will be going to out local police station tomorrow for the police record check form. We will update if we run into any troubles as I have read several posts about how difficult this is to obtain for some people.

The biggest thing I’m worried about for Plebe Summer is the physical aspect. I usually get shin splints after about a week or two of regularly running long distances, which has kept me from doing much running (I stick with weightlifting more, but I know I need to start focusing on calisthenics now). Any advice on how to prepare for PT?

Congrats on your appointment! You‘ve got 12 weeks to I Day so it’s wise to get started right away and avoid the shin splints. I think this was posted with the 2026 PTR and sounds like a great 8+ week training plan. 7A79B16A-49D9-4936-BA38-973CE8339623.jpeg

Shin splints, and the related stress fractures, are among the most common injuries during plebe summer. The best thing you can do is to start running longer distances now. Start gradually, with shorter distances at slower pace. Build up steadily, making sure you also incorporate rest. Sleep well and eat well. Keep up the weight training, which adds balance, and strengthens muscles and joints. If you keep at it, starting now, you can minimize the chances of shin splints and stress fractures come plebe summer.

There are tons of info online on exercises and preventive measures you can take to help prevent shin splints. Also see your cross country coach at school. When I ran we did daily exercises and specific icing to help prevent. Ensure you have proper shoes also. You don’t want shin splints during PS. You are on your feet all day everyday PS. You will need to take preventive action now and increase your mileage.

Dropping almost 3 minutes per mile in 8 weeks while increasing mileage and frequency. :biglaugh:

I wish that was how it worked. :p

I should have read that plan more carefully. That is a terrible idea for running.
Well, @IronmanDaremo, give the poster some ideas to work with so that he/she can keep up with the pack, avoid shin splints, and be in great condition for the rigors of plebe summer.;)
