Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

I am team ‘buy all the pics’. Did not regret subscribing.

Thornton gets almost all companies, doing all things (cannot go inside buildings). You will see your plebe doing amazing things. For a fee.

Alumni Association also has a program, that’s quite good. They don’t get each company, each evolution. But, they have access to some spaces Thornton doesn’t. For a fee.

There are also pretty good parent photographers that will get Mids, hit or miss, and post on the class FB page. Recommend joining that, if for only photos. For free.

If you can swing it, recommend doing both. You will be happy to have them.

Lol A SAF member sent me a pic of my son at graduation. It looked exactly like him. Wasn’t him.

And that pic was with a normal haircut and no cover.

I bought the plebe package. There were 467 midshipmen that looked like my son during plebe summer. If you don’t have patience like me, I wouldn’t do it. ;)

It’s definitely a sport!!

I printed off the pics I found (O course, Iday Oath -Thornton gets a close up of each plebe, sailing and sailing and sailing and smillessss, for example) and mailed them during plebe letters. He loved them. They got lost during his move to first duty station. They meant so much to him that he asked me to reprint them for him.

And now they are popping up in my memories, daily.

Great memories, captured. To revisit for them, and me, latter.

Have not seen any information this year on Larry Thornton's "Where's Waldo?" Plebe photo services.

Some seasoned MIDN parents care to weigh in regarding their prior plebe's platoon photo pursuit pleasure?
We did the USNA Allumni https://www.usna.com/parents
and
the free https://www.flickr.com/photos/unitedstatesnavalacademy/albums/with/72177720308708305

Between those 2 and my wife's Facebook we saw plenty of pics with DS in them.

My DD's Class Ceremony was yesterday. Her BGO came to ceremoniously give the appointment. I was overwhelmed by how many people came up to remark on the award. I'm not sure how many of our forum BGOs engage on this, but I can confirm it is a great marketing effort.
Saturday was DD's graduation. They announced where each graduate is going, but nothing else. A couple of people came up to her after the ceremony and said the school should have had a special presentation for her at graduation. In fairness, they did a month or so ago at an all school assembly, but some felt it should have been highlighted at graduation.

I believe it is unusual that they even mention the colleges students are attending at a graduation. Most schools I do not think do that. Ours did not allow graduation toppers or any other ornaments as well. My assumption is that Graduation is less personal and an event more for the class then the individual. I did enjoy BGO presentation at other school event however.

Parents clubs and BGOs work hard to make P2Bs feel special and I have been very thankful.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Thornton did a good job during our 2024 son’s plebe summer. I Waldo hunted through masks.

Found some of my kid and a few of @justdoit19 kiddo.

Then DS company got sent back to isolation and after that it was over. To this day he hasn’t done the O course. Never did ropes. Mr. Thornton was kind enough to refund my money as my kid had joined the Ghost company of the 2024 plebe summer class.

Alumnus association offers great pictures, and USNA also shared on Flicker.

In the fall of DS plebe year Mr. Thornton offered portrait sessions. They were great, affordable, and amazing.

Ahhh the memories!

My ‘24 was iso’ed (alone, in a room) and held the record at that time for iso (20 some days). No oath, courses, weapons. After release, he was still medically restricted so couldn’t do anything. He was depressed and his GF also dumped him.

He is my hero for not DOR’ing as a ‘still’ kid, fresh from HS. I could NOT have made it!!

BUT I digress. Thornton also refunded me. He is the nicest, most personable one on one person.

I still think about how COVID was so devastating, to SO many…………in so many unexpected ways. But, Thornton still did his best. And was honorable with refunds.

That reminds me of a PS pic either Thornton or the AA took of my plebe on a sailboat pointing forward. The angle of the image made it look like he was pointing toward a parked car in the background. I included the pic in one of our PS letters, stating how relieved I was to know they were properly being taught the correct way to avoid cars while sailing. He didnt laugh.

Waldo hunting was my favorite morning ritual throughout plebe summer. and having all those bald heads wearing masks... no contest to my patience and obsessive searching.

As far as important documents go...what exactly should we bring to I-Day? Social security card? Passport? Birth certificate?

I want to bring what I am supposed to but I also don't want to risk things potentially being lost unnecessarily.

You’re right. These are important. Therefore, always rely on the primary source — USNA — and not well-intentioned but not always well-informed anonymous posters on SAF. Not intending to be flippant here, but you must lean in on questions such as this. Go through the Permit to Report packet with a fine-tooth comb. Pay attention to detail. It’s all good training for life as a mid and then an officer.

check out permit to report packet - bring a copy of everything listed - my daughter brought everything in a folder with plastic sleeves - she had everything in there ready to go - make sure to walk in with your paperwork in your hands, dont put it in back pack bc that gets taken asap! she took copies of birth certificate, social security card, passport copies (not actual one) and every document that packet told her to bring - also brought copies of everything that she sent in to USNA just in case - make sure to bring vaccine record form!!! I also had a copy of everything at our rental for I day - just in case. My daughter also scanned everything and kept it!!!

Is the extra copy of all the forms a super preparation for I-day or is it something where several plebes during I-day are actually calling their parents to get some paperwork that they forgot out of their binder?

So kind of random question but can someone explain the food situation on I Day? I’m very confused and want to make sure my DD doesn’t starve. Should we be making sure we have food for her after the oath ceremony? I keep getting ads to get boxed lunches but we’ve already bought tickets for the parents bbq. I assumed the plebes would be fed but if that is incorrect, I’d love to understand more so we are able to give her what she may need! Thanks.
