Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

So based on the comments above, I'm re-thinking our plan. DD has a 0945 report time. I originally thought about dropping off her and wife by driving through Gate 8. I'd go to stadium and ride the bus back. I was not expecting to see her again until later in the day.

Now I'm wondering if we all just go to stadium and take the shuttle bus in together. We live just under 45 miles away.

Any thoughts or recommendations?
I would park at stadium together and walk in together so that you can walk together to alumni hall - it is a special time to say good byes etc.

also - you will probably be meeting one of the assistant coaches the day before to drop off gear so keep that in mind - they usually do this the day before I Day. please reach out with questions......our girls will be on the same team next year!!! plus I am the parent coordinator for our team so let me know if you or any other plebe parents need anything.

Hi friends,
For those of our DS/DDs that didn't get the official appointment certificate in the mail, I called Admissions yesterday to inquire about it. Our DD's Senior Awards night is next week and her BGO will be presenting her appointment to her at the school but he doesn't have anything to present. Admissions said they ran out of those portfolios and will not be ordering more. It's disappointing but if you reach out to your BGO he/she can request a digital version of the certificate from Admissions. I ordered a portfolio off of Amazon: https://a.co/d/dtEU9ts

At least they'll have a keepsake to remember this awesome achievement (other than the awesome achievement itself). Just wanted to share as I'm finding out many others are in the same boat and likely those coming off the waitlist will too.

FWIW, after a LOT of years, I really don't know where my original certificate has gotten off to but I can tell you that my original notification of appointment, a letter is framed and hangs in my home to this day.

Thank you for sharing. She only received an email and no formal letter but yes, we would love something to frame (hopefully a USNA diploma in 4 years).

I have my diploma and my commissions at every rank as I got promoted but for me, the letter of appointment is the one I cherish the most.

Well, that's good to know. I had not be planning for that. Thanks so much!

unfortunately her HS graduation is Monday night, so little time to acclimate too
Pacific North West former Mid Parent here. I-Day for our DD was 7-10-ish days after a national rowing meet (H o Charles). We were very rushed ahead of I-Day. I worried some about what I knew of Mid Atlantic summer "wet heat", but DD aclimated to East Coast humidity in less than a week.

3 years later DD was 2C and a platoon leader and I learned from her exp doing that how incrediablely perpared Detailers are, and how much they value the opportunity to give something of themselves back to the USNA for an experience that they value so much in their own lives. DD knew each plebe in her care, and had instuction of acclimation issues.

The USNA system knows exactly how to execute PS for your DD/DS and the Mids tasked with executing the Plebe Summer Mission care deeply about doing it right. Relax-n-Trust, she/he will ybe fine. This whole PS thing is done FOR your kid, not TO them, and the USNA system has done PS 100s of times.

I envy you.......................... a little......................from the other side.

BTW, if you are from the Pacific N W, (Evergreen), your DD/DS is now "PAC-NO", and should be hugely proud of it.

Yes, yes, a hundred times yes. So well said!

For plebe summer, DD held a minor billet as a 2/C and a major billet as a 1/C. She took her role extremely seriously, and it was 100% about ensuring the plebes were ready to join the full brigade and to excel once academics started. The plebes were in her care — and she knew their success and failures were her successes and failures.

When plebe summer ends, the plebes are exhausted. The detailers — maybe even more so! All in service to the plebes.

Today was one of the first times that going to Navy this summer felt "real" to me as an incoming plebe. Getting my appointment and all the hoorah after was amazing, but I don't think it set in that I'll be attending THE naval academy until today. Our school had our annual girls flag football tournament and, to the dismay of the "coaches", I resigned myself to being water girl rather than the usual position of qb. Telling people that "if I get hurt, I can't go to school in a month," seemed to explain my reasoning 😂. But watching the graduation and commissioning this morning and getting ready for my own graduation tomorrow made this whole experience feel a lot more real and I couldn't be more excited for the journey. Let's go 27!
