Hi, I am a class of 2026 hopeful, and I wanted to come on here to ask about the jobs available after the academy. I understand directly after graduation I’ll most likely be a DWO, but what about after that? Also, is it possible for academy grads to go into the TACLET/MSRT routes after graduation?

For the class of 2021, 22 graduates went to Flight School, 7 graduates went to Cyber assignments, 9 graduates went to Prevention assignments (at Sectors), 2 went directly to grad school (those were both athletes who got a 5th year due to covid), and the rest were assigned Deck Watch Officers (DWO) billets or Engineering Officer in Training (EOIT) billets. My understanding is that TACLET is a possible option for a 2nd assignment. I do not believe anyone has ever received TACLET or MSRT as a first assignment, but I could be wrong.
 
The "after that" is pretty much anything you want - stay afloat, come ashore, go to flight school, go TACLET/MSRT/MSST, go to grad school, etc. There's obviously some nuance to this that you'll learn more as you spend around the Coast Guard, but the long and short of it is that after your first tour, you're options are pretty open to anything available to officers in the CG.
