That's the rumor. I have read that most top theater commanders are against this. This will be a very awkward situation and I predict there will be resignations over this order, if given.

Why? The order would be neither illegal, nor immoral.

Who do you think will resign? Leaders who disagree? There are fewer than you might think.

In the grand scheme of things, what a theater commander, combatant commander, or the gal in the F-35 thinks is not relevant to the decision of the political leaders. That's always been the way; this is nothing new. I doubt you'll see resignations, I doubt you'll hear much squawking. Small comments perhaps, but that'll be it.

The commanders will come to attention, salute, and do their best to carry out their orders to the best of their abilities.

I'm sure it was a well-thought out decision, weighing all the risks and rewards....

oh... no, I'm not sure of that.

When you've been there for nearly two decades, you have to leave at some point. They aren't colonies.
Sure. And Germany, and Japan, and Korea, (fill in basically any country). I'm not against pulling out.... but I doubt there's been any real thought here.

I just saw a clip where Vice President Biden said all the troops would be coming home from Afghanistan back in 2014.

I wish we would be told what this mission really is/was. The public supports bringing the troops home.
