PPQ

Another word on the PPQ thing. When my daughter entered in 2007 she was not PQ. Her vision was not the best. She was selected for the PRK surgery in the first wave this past summer. Her vision is corrected to 20/15 and if all continues to go well will be PQ by graduation.

Dont let the PPQ thing get you down. If USAFA is your school do everything you can to get in.

I do not wear, and have never worn, glasses. I do know that my eyes are probably not 20/20 (at least for distance), but I doubt they were worse than 20/30. I talked to someone the other day and he said that a common mistake is actually the sitting height. I was measured on a stool with a big cushion on top. He said that it can be a common mistake that you get non PPQ because the sitting height is wrong because you sank into the cushion (kind of silly, but it apparently happens do a good amount of people). I am still waiting to hear back on what the real reason that I am non PPQ, but I am hoping that I can get a retest and maybe get the PPQ. If not, then I hope I will still see an appointment anyway sometime in March.

Thank you everyone,

Brian

Bit of encouragement.

Son got LOA, then DQ'd/rejected because of history of what was called erroneously called "asthma" as a tyke. Got reconsidered (very competitive) and is now in Class of 2013 but is not "PPQ"... however, after discussion with someone in the know at USAFA the quote was, "Once you're here, you do well, that's not going to stop you."

May not be exactly the same as vision problems, but I sure did see alot of BC (birth control) glasses in those pics from WebGuy this summer!

Good Luck!

Lilly,
Beautiful dog! We have a puppy that looks just like that.

When you say "very competitive", what does that mean exactly? How long after being disqualified, did he get his appointment? I guess what I am asking is when did he get his appointment?

Thanks!

By competitive I mean ACT 34, something like 14 or 15 AP classes with all 5's on AP tests, CAP, strong CFA scores.

If memory serves, got DQ'ed about end of Feb then about five or six weeks later he got the good news.

That was a gut wrenching roller coaster! But what a rush when he got that telephone call saying "We want you!"

After thinking about it (and talking to my wife) I now remember that son found out about medical waiver rejection on Christmas Eve!! We had stuff from USAFA ready for Christmas morning! Bummer.

But, I think the 6-8 weeks later time frame is about right on when we found out that he was good to go to the Academy.

You are taking lots of quesses right now. You need to wait and find out exactly the issue, then from there plot a course of action. Good luck and always remember it is not over until I-DAY.

It's not over at I-day either!
When I applied, I had to send extra records in to even be commissionable. As of last week, I am PQ (with waivers). So, it took 3.5 years for the decision to be made, but it went in my favor.
