I wish I would have googled the area. By UNLOSC it would be an international strait, but that is superceded by the convention you mentioned. And while it has been challenged, it remains in effect.

Didn't know Turkey was non signatory. Thought that as NATO Member they would be. Thanks for the info. I guarantee that Turkey was given this concession in 1936 because, as Germany was expanding its influence in Europe, Britain did not want another Gallipoli on its hands.

Haha, they're not the only NATO nation to refuse to sign...however, that may change.
