My parents and I are trying to book the ticket for CVW. Problem is the only available flights get in at around 12AM which requires me to rent a hotel room in the surrounding area. Are there any hotels in the area that would allow me to book a room on my own, given the circumstances? I also look at this as a excellent opportunity to tour the town. Since I don't drive, is there a trolley or bus service that are for tourists to get around the town?

You have multiple options but how constained are you by expense.

Which airport are you flying into? BWI? Cabs will take you to hotel. Next your parents can book a hotel for you, I would suggest one of the downtown hotels from a convience sake but you are looking at $150-300 a night depending what is available. It's a 10 min walk from the hotel to gate 1.

Other hotels are availble but not in walking distance to the yard.

You can find cheaper hotels on hotwire.com, but once you commit, you have paid for it (no cancellations). Plug in an address and dates. Not at all anyway associated with this company, other than I'm a customer.

Yes, I'm flying in from BWI. Would they allow a minor to check themselves in?

Gibsons Lodging

My son and I stayed at Gibson's Lodgings, which is a bed and breakfast. The Naval Academy backs right up to it, and we walked back and forth. I am sure if your parents called, they would let you do it. We stayed in the off season, so it was something like 100.00 per night. Great place! If you need more info, let me know.

Gibson's Lodgings is one of my favorite recommendations. Right next to USNA walk gate on Prince George St., and in the heart of DTA (downtown Annapolis). They are well used to Navy families and mids. If they don't have room, ask about other B&B's in the historic district or google them.

From BWI, you can take the Airport Shuttle (book online for a better price) from BWI to Gibson's. Ditto for way back. Their prices usually beat Super Shuttle and taxis, and credit card can be used at time of trip.

Good luck!

There is a bed and breakfast above Chick and Ruth's Delly. It is called the Scotlaur Inn. It is perfect for one person or two. Has own shower and bathroom and a TV with all the channels. The staff is awesome and you get breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. It is less than a ten minute walk to the academy. I stayed there when my son had an official NCAA visit in January. It was the perfect location and not the high prices of the surrounding hotels and historic bed and breakfasts. www.ScotlaurInn.com or call 410-268-5665. They are very supportive of the academy and their families. Even say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at 8:30 sharp.

Thanks for the input!

I actually JUST found a flight that comes in early in the morning. Is it possible for me to arrive at the academy for CVW at 10AM? Or should I tour the town? My main concern is that I will be carrying my luggage and will be without my parents.

The town is really awesome. Definitely tour the historic part of town-just happens to be minutes away from the Academy. And make sure you eat at Moe's for lunch and Chick and Ruths for breakfast.

The overnight flight from the West Coast might to leave you a bit tired, I would think. Add to that the 3 hours time difference and you might not be in the best shape that day.

Another, but final, change of plans. Apparently flight costs change within a couple of hours :)

I will be arriving on Wednesday Evening and staying at the Scotlaur Inn. Thursday, I'll be "touring" Annapolis with my luggage kept at the Scotlaur Inn. Then at 4.. CVW till Saturday!!!

So!! All in all, a roundtrip ticket plus hotel costs is exactly the same price as a roundtrip ticket arriving on Thursday morning.... Apparently the secret is booking two one way tickets through different airlines.

Annapolis is a very walking-friendly city; take advantage of it!

azncreazion: If you are awake in time Thursday AM, be sure to go downstairs to the Deli for the Pledge of Allegiance. No matter what time you go in for breakfast, tell your server you're in town for CVW. The folks at Chick and Ruth's Deli are long time USNA sponsor parents and great people!
