Hi there, I was accepted for a 4 year NROTC scholarship and was assigned to cycle 1 on June 6th. I’ve heard some recent stories on how you should not come with a military haircut since that will attract bad attention from the Chiefs and the Mids, this accurate? I’m used to having a buzzcut as my primary haircut (1 inch I think it was?), so please advise on this

Just go with your normal buzz cut. It will soon be gone and you'll all look the same.

Can confirm that you will attract more bad attention coming in with long hair. Better off getting it cut before you go so you aren’t covered with hair for the whole day when you get it cut again.

Your haircut is fine, and it will be buzzed completely when you get there. Super long hair can get you some extra attention, but that candidate would also loose that feeling of getting it all cut off all at once....A "this is getting real" moment. It is a personal choice for each candidate. The extra attention likely doesn't last since once you all get buzz cuts, everybody looks the same🤣🤣

Hey guys by “buzzcut” I meant a 1 inch haircut… I was considering taking the safety blade off and just shaving it all down; would that be too much???

Yes, that would be too much and probably also draw unwanted attention. Just show up with your normal cut and go through the experience with everyone else. There's a reason they do the things they do, in the order they do them.

Don't deprive them of the opportunity to give you your first haircut. I remember my first boot camp haircut. I got to Orlando with hair past my collar. It took the dude about five swipes with what seemed to be industrial strength clippers. buzz buzzz buzzz buzzz buzzzzz It was very impressive. Long hair dropping like bodies on Call of Duty. It was over way too soon. I had no chance to settle in and relax. It would have been a lesser experience though had I cut my hair prior to getting there.

I'll be in the area all day if you have further questions.

Sunscreen isn't on the packing list. Can it be obtained there?
Last summer DD completed NSI. If the candidates are told they can get sunscreen along with the other things they are to buy with their $250-$300 prepaid Visa (which is on packing list), then yes they can.
