Backstory on me: I am a sophomore in college. My high school grades were not good. I was ranked 49 out of a class of 71, but have since completely turned my life around. I am doing well in college and have a much stronger work ethic. I just filled out my prelim application for the Academy. my SAT score was a 1280. I was just wondering how long it would take to find out whether I am an official candidate or not. I didn't want to ask, but I was also wondering what my chances of becoming a candidate are. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Mostly everyone can become a candidate. Scores and rankings don’t matter in the pre-lim application. As long as your a ya citizen and of the age requirement and don’t have anything serious that would eliminate you, you should receive an application

First bit of advice....breathe, relax, this is a marathon, not a sprint. If you just filled out the Preliminary Application yesterday, it may take a few days. If you've been monitoring the Forum at all, things were a bit busy on the Yard yesterday. Your SAT score should be sufficient to be a Qualified Applicant, and if for some reason your HS class rank holds you back, contact your BGO , tell him/her your story, and they might be able to help.

Good for you for turning things around. That ability will serve you very well in life. One presumed hallmark of a re-applicant, and certainly someone who’s two years into college, is a greater sense of resourcefulness and maturity. You say you “didn’t want to ask,” but you ask anyways for this forum to “chance me.” Show that resourcefulness and maturity now and take further responsibility: Use the search function to seek the seemingly countless threads about re-applicants specifically and chances generally. You’ll find all you need to assess your own situation.

Thank you all so much for your answers. I have one more question. Do I also need to send my high school and college transcripts, or should I wait to do that? I already sent in my SAT scores.

Continuing the theme of my first response: Turn to primary sources first. This forum is fantastic for insights, perspective, opinions, experiences. Primary sources provide the latest and most accurate information. Use them.
