Can anyone advise what costs/fees/uniforms are covered for CGA sponsored cadet candidates at the prep schools? I know the candidates are paid and they pay for tuition out of their pay, but what about room and board, uniforms and other fees? Information flow from the CGA has been great, but a bit fuzzy on this part. Thank you in advance.

At MMI and GMC, tuition is covered by the academy with some financial aid from the school. For all other expenses the scholar is responsible for payment. This includes books, fees, uniforms, room, and board.

Having said that, each student receives base pay and housing allowance from the Coast Guard. The housing allowance covers the room and board costs for each school. In short, the scholars get a large enough paycheck to cover all their expenses at prep school.

Most students, if they don't go crazy with their paychecks, are able to bank several thousand dollars by the end of the academic year.
