I know that most of the candidates going to prep school route are largely for academic pursposes (GPA, SAT Scores) but wondering if it also an avenue for those that don't have as heavy of an athletic/team participation. My DS, though pretty sound academically I believe, hasn't done varsity athletics and that is definitely a missing piece in his application. He did club soccer up through 10th grade but sort of aged out of that. He is high average on the CFA scores so he is fit but just hasn't done as much on competitive teams and wondering if prep school might be a consideration by the SA admissions.

I’ve not heard of that before. It’s up to the individual to ready themselves physically. And beyond the physical piece of sports, is the leadership/teamwork part of belonging to a team. And all that entails. Which can be demonstrated elsewhere, but he would need to show that. Not everyone who is appointed played a varsity sport.

To your question, however, i don’t see a prep school as a path for shoring up the things that a varsity sport demonstrates.
