Prep school

He's being offered an AOG scholarship. We should know all the details within a few weeks. MY DS spoke to the RC personally.
Oh. I misunderstood. If he is being offered the prep school option, that's perfect.

I will only add...the routine (at least at MMI) mirrors closely plebe year and in some ways...was more stringent which truly helped my DS for r day, beast and plebe year...

That's what I figured. Why would USMA go through the trouble of giving out these scholarships if they're not going to take the student the following year. Thanks

WP admissions has very little to do with the AoG scholarships. Its all done through the RC and Assc of Grads. However, the prep schools, civil and maps, do report the sudents progress through out the year. So don't go into it with the thought, "hit cruse control" The AoG scholarships pa for about half of the tuition

Both of this options are "first world problems" but I think the answer comes from what your RC tells your son about the weaknesses in his application and the kind of person he is.

If he has a strong academic background, the maturity to succeed with little guidance, and is ready to go to college, then ROTC is probably a better option.

If his in immature for his age and did not have the rigorous high school academic experience a year of prep school could help establish those foundations.

The other advantage of ROTC is the additional nomination and appointment opportunities. ROTC cadets get to compete for service connected nomination.

MMI AoG Cadets also get the ROTC nomination for their application. But if you are an AoG cadet, the prep school assists in securing the MOC nom. Looking at the stats when my ds went to mmi, they had 100 percent AoG Cadets get into USMA for the previous 5 years.
