In a tweet, he said no.

Is there a backstory to this?
 
Considering he was a hold over from prior administration and has worked for Heritage Foundation, and is opposed to critical race theory, it wouldn't surprise me.

The USNA Board of Visitors is one of the DoD panels that has been suspended since the election. There is at least one lawsuit that I know of regarding this as they are legally supposed to be meeting and have not been.
Regarding this individual, he was appointed by President Trump and the closure of the DoD Panels by SecDef is reportedly to deal with getting Trump Appointees off of the boards. Vought was previously the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and since the inauguration,
has founded an organization to oppose the teaching of Critical Race theory.
 
@OldRetSWO beat me to it. Yes, this one is new. Russell Vought served alongside those appointed by President Obama.

To be honest, I mention it being unfortunate- but alas I am also naive- maybe it is not unfortunate if the appointment was made for something more nefarious than what the intent of being on the Board of Visitors entails. Nonetheless, a disappointing precedence being set.

I think there were three that Trump put in that got this letter (maybe all SAs?).

Sick in bed - so I didn’t feel like reading the story. So maybe I am not right.

From what I've read, the White House may not even have the legal authority to terminate these people.
