President Trump's national security adviser resigns.

Actually, my final words for this thread and the similar political one...

God, Country, Family, Service, self...in that order.

Think about it.

It brings tears to my eyes to know my DD so strongly believes in this and this country and is willing to die for those who only want to tear it apart :(

You have said it all and we all are willing to fight and die because we love this country and believe it will remain the greatest country on earth. Within the boundary of good test we all know that not every presidency starts off smoothly, and people seem to be having way too much expectation on the Trump administration and CNN doesn't seem to be helping in anyway instead they keep pointing reasons why the country should be divided for nothing. "We are Americans and I believe good wanted it to be that way" (Ronald Reagan)

I truly hope you do not have a DD or DS as a cadet

A little harsh don't you think.

I'm pretty confident that our cadets, or sons and daughters that are currently serving, have the ability to think for themselves and form their own opinions, opinions that often differ from ours. To "Hope" that someone does not have a son or daughter cadet because you don't agree with their thinking is a bit out of line. Can't say I agree with their assessment of current affairs but I'd never bring their kids into the conversation.

He was the nominated-National Security Adviser whom conspired with the government of Russia against the sitting American government

Gee, that's a stretch. You must have read the transcript already to know he conspired with the government of Russia against the sitting American government. Speaking to an ambassador does not (necessarily) constitute a conspiracy.

Tripper...Agree with a fair amount of your post...Flynn was the one who threw his political party affiliation out there, most people didn't even listen much less care. I guess he thought it would be like kryptonite, protect him from the mostly liberal media. He should have asked McChrystal how well that worked for him first...

As far as going away and then redeeming oneself....cue up the David Petreaus record....

And....really unsure how a career MI/IC officer didn't know his calls would be monitored...

Purely for the sake of argument, since I'm not as clairvoyant as others in this thread, he might not have worried about the calls being monitored if he made no quid pro quo arrangements. His naivety, if you will, would lie in the fact that he didn't foresee his contact with the Russian ambassador, and the content thereof, being leaked to the press by political enemies within his own government.

No one will ever know for sure the content of the calls unless the transcripts are publicly released...and releasing them might compromise the method of collection. For sure he made enemies while running DIA.

He was the nominated-National Security Adviser whom conspired with the government of Russia against the sitting American government, then lied about it. This is beyond dispute.

TBD. Patience Grasshopper.

Sledge, this isn't about talking to the Russian Ambassador. It's about more than a quid pro quo on a couple of phone calls. It's about the skull hammering arrogance to the point of stupidity of the folks Trump surrounded himself from the beginning. How in heaven's name does a retired 3-star, former DIA Director let himself be paid to sit a dinner table in Moscow with V. Putin and Jill Stein? It would have to be a whole lot of money to suffer that embarrassment.

I'm making no claim of malfeasance. Until Maddis and Kelly showed up, Trump's Russian Braintrust, including Flynn, was made up of exceedingly small men, so concerned with their own pipelines to Russian largesse that they couldn't even be bothered to tell Candidate Trump that Russia was in Ukraine a year and a half after the invasion of Crimea. The only question is, did they really believe that Russia was potentially benign? Or was purely about feathering their own nests? To the point of being offered shares in Rosneft?

Here's a suggestion for those of you believe that there is a marriage of convenience between the Trump haters on the left and the Russia haters on the right to bring down this Administration. If Drudge, FNC, Infowars and Breitbart aren't giving you enough fair and balanced reporting, try RT.com.

I'm getting ready to send my Korean vet dad on an honor flight to DC to visits all the war memorials and Arlington. I would imagine that plane load of vets could let you know in short order how dead American patriotism is.

They may not necessarily like the politics, but they love the country.

my 1 1/2 cents worth and I'm done.

Speaking of the Korean War, I'm currently re-reading "This Kind Of War" by the great Texan historian T.R. Fehrenbach. Probably the finest work on that largely-forgotten war ever written, or that ever will be written.

In Chapter 10 he writes "Once aroused, a democracy can match a totalitarian state in every facet of strength - it can be stronger, for totalitarianism has built-in bureaucratic weaknesses. A Hitler can command, and men march - but a Hitler can go mad - and there is no one to say him nay."

Those two statements no longer apply to the United States of America.

Maybe it's my Jesuit college education, but I look at the reasoning behind decisions before throwing my support and don't put blind faith in anything, including Country. It's the blind faith following that leads to nationalism and rulers like Hitler, Mao, and Stalin. My ROTC son might have to go to war to support his country, but if it was for a country that banned freedom of the press, made a specific religious group adhere to a national registry, or who's ruler was profiting off of a side relationship with a super power, then I don't think that's worth dying for. What makes our country great (and some others) is the ability to criticize our leaders and their decisions.

Should love/faith be conditional, or should one think more globally to the bigger picture? Don't rough seas make better sailors? When things are bad, or perceived as bad depending on perspective, then isn't that the time when leadership is needed the most? Our country is a work in progress. Our track record isn't the greatest. There are several examples of things we've done as a nation that we shouldn't be proud of, but we often grow the most from our obstacles. I sense we are entering a more polarized time in our history, made more dangerous by the fact there are those who look to try and replace us as the greatest nation on Earth. We can point fingers, blame others, and wring our hands lamenting about the good old days, but let's face it, that doesn't move things forward. Facing our fears as a nation gives us an opportunity to address them. We're not perfect, but we should never stop striving to be just that. There are obstacles in our future, but we'll figure it out and grow as a nation. That's what we do, and that's what I love about this country. My DD is not risking her life for an individual nor for a political party, she's doing it because she has unconditional love for her country...good or bad, she believes in our evolution, and she is willing to risk it all defending the ideal that eventually our future is greater than our past...even if we go sideways every now and then. If people aren't willing to defend this dream in the darkest of times, then how are we to have hope for a better future? Serving as an officer is much more than simply finding a way to pay for college. It's gut check time for a lot of young people. Your country needs you now more than ever. Are you willing to answer the call to serve, or will you rely on someone else to do it for you, holding on to your conditions being met first? I couldn't be prouder of my DD, as I'm sure many of you can relate. It is a challenging transition to say the least, but it has to be a sign that a brighter dawn will soon emerge.

Trump nominates Alexander Costa as DOL secretary.

Harvard Law, Dean of Florida International School of Law.
Nominated by GW Bush to National Labor Relations Board.
Actually this guy clerked for Samuel Alito and seems more qualified for AG!
As a U.S. Attorney, he actually defended a muslim girl's civil right to wear a Hajib in a public school.
