If I was able to get the President's Service Award Gold, would that set me apart significantly from others? I've heard less than 1% of students receive it but I was just curious.

While this is certainly a commendable achievement, your entire "body of work" is looked at - grades, test scores, classes taken, competitiveness of your school, class standing, sports, leadership, community and so on. If you take a look at the Chance Me or Stats threads in this forum or others, you will see what successful and unsuccessful candidates bring to the competition, both for nominations and appointments.

Even if "less than 1% of students receive it," all other students aren't your competition. It's all the others who are competitive candidates for USNA (since you're in this forum), who are also racking up volunteer and community service hours. I suspect that percentage might be more than 1%.

It doesn't do much good to speculate on things for which you won't get a definitive answer. Work on giving your best effort to being well-rounded.

And thank you for all those hours of service which you took from your personal time. You could have been lounging on a sofa, hanging with friends or playing games. No doubt many benefited from your work, and I hope that karma rebounds on you tenfold.
