I contacted my USAFA Counselor about previous standardized test scores. She says they are looked at to see how much the applicant has improved.
I have two poor subsections on the ACT. This is the reason why I switched to the SAT. After I switched, then I was able to achieve strong scores.
Would these scores significantly hurt my application? Also, are these scores looked at heavily or no?
Before I achieved my appointment to USNA, my Blue and Gold Officer told me that they are looked at.
But i'm not sure if each Academy is different regarding this topic.
Thanks for all responses !!

If they are looked at, it is to see if you showed improvement as the USAFA counselor told you. You said you improved, so what are you worried about?

I am worried that these poor scores will not be used in favor of me. Instead of seeing it as improvement, they would see it as "in the past, this candidate scored low in this section of a standardized test." Hope I am making sense here.

You have an appointment to USNA ... LOA and presidential nomination.

Somehow it seems your improvement is what SA would look at in your case.

Understand, but you've already been told by the academy and others that's not what they do with it. Do we need to hit you over the head with a hammer to drive the point home?

If your improved SAT scores are very good I don't think they'll hurt you... I received an appointment to USAFA with a 29 ACT, and one of my subsections was a 36, so if that tells you anything it's that I had some very low sub scores. My SAT, however, was a 1440. They piece together everything to give you the most attractive admission portfolio.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience! Very helpful.
