Ive smoked a few times and I’m a junior in high school and I was wondering if that is disqualifying me

Depends. You say “I’ve smoked,” which indicates that you haven’t stopped. Not good for someone who aspires to attend an SA. Know that you’ll be asked about this should you receive an offer of appointment. Saying “no” would not be a good start for someone who’ll be taking an oath to abide by the Honor System. Should the truth come out later — and it very likely will — you’ll be in deep trouble. Saying “yes” could carry dire consequences, but it would be the honorable thing to do.

Well I stopped and I was wondering if they do drug tests upon entrance that goes back longer than 6 months

Drug test should not really matter (assuming you've stopped as a junior) - you will be asked about prior drug use. You should be 100% forthcoming regarding this use - you will need to explain your pattern of prior use, etc.

The military won’t be surprised by experimental use in HS. You’ll be asked about this in medical histories and security clearance paperwork time and time again. Be honest, be consistent.

My son told me he was thinking about going to a party last night ... he was invited by his friend who just got a four year type 1 scholarship for AFROTC.

We agreed he wouldn’t go.

e.g. social use 3-4 times during sophomore and junior years vs. daily use from 7th grade to junior year - essentially how much, how often, and over what period of time.

Its your kid and you can do anything you want, but I dont agree with that. Unless this is some type of drug party where cocaine and such will be lying around, hiding from the world and not dealing with the pressure out there only means they will be more susceptible to it when they are away at college, regardless if it is military or civilian. I mean unless someone is going to pour alcohol down his throat or force a joint in his mouth, I think your son should be able to handle the party, because honestly if he cant do it at this party, what makes you think he will be able to hand it later on. Now if the party gets so out of hand where there is a danger of the cops coming and arresting everyone, then your son is going to have to think about when it is time to leave.

Would 5 or 6 times from sophomore to junior year be to much

The parties his class have ... a lot of drinking, hard drugs.

If athletes are there ... and someone takes a pic of them with alcohol ... suspended from the team.

It isn’t worth it.

Edit: I didn’t forbid him btw ... we both agreed it wasn’t the right setting for him.

As @Capt MJ indicated, the military is not surprised by a bit of experimental use; but I have not seen a formal standard showing "acceptable" prior use. Just don't use it again now that you are planning on applying to a SA. Good luck.

@Capt MJ as usual has it right. The Military cares about "recent" or "consistent" drug use a lot more than "past occasional". The only thing you MUST be careful of it that you actually DO NOT use anymore, nor will you or ANYONE around you! I had a friend who made Captain in the CG, was Commanding Officer of a 378ft Cutter, and got randomly drug tested. He came back positive in a urinalysis and later positive in a hair sample for cocaine use. After a CGIS investigation it was believed his wife had been using and he was around her, but they never really determined beyond a reasonable doubt that he was NOT using. Long story short, it ruined his career, he was allowed to leave the CG but lost his career. Good man, a good friend, but did not abide by the rules he knew. IF you have an inclination to party, or even be around people who party, then think very hard and long if the military is where you want to be.

Interesting....What is not mentioned and something you really need to contemplate.........Do I have a character flaw? If you truly, just experimented with friends, then maybe your easily influenced by peer pressure. If you enjoyed the uforia and escape from reality then this is a different debate......for yourself to answer. Either way, are these good traits for a leadership position or to be a mentor one day for others? There is repentance, which means "to change" and "forgiveness" which means to move on and not to repeat the same path learned from your experience.

This is something you and you alone can answer in your very young life. Growth comes from learning your mistakes

My friend I saw your other post about grades and now this one on weed. I am just going to be straight up. In my opinion, the USNA and or the USMA will eat you alive. I know you said you want to go to one or the other but both are crushing students with 4.0 unweighted GPA's, no drug use, multiple sport lettermen, Eagle Scouts, etc etc. . If you are even asking the question about weed I am pretty sure you know you have a problem. Do yourself a favor and get off the dope, get an ROTC scholarship at a regular college and see if you can become the top cadet in their program. See if you can get straight "A's" in college courses for a year. If you can reapply. If not be happy. By the way, did you also know that your current drug usage will probably already disqualify you for jobs in the FBI, DOJ and many other government agencies.

I really don’t care about other government agency’s. My only aspiration is the marines or army, I messed up with weed and I messed up my freshmen year of high school and that’s why I wanted to know if transferring was possible from a state military school.

From friends who have attended I don’t believe the rigor would kill me, since sophomore year I’ve been an all A student and if I were to attend I wouldn’t major in a stem major, as I said before my aspirations is career army officer.

Just a point of clarification - one does not transfer into a service academy as one would do when going from one traditional college to another. While there are a number of candidates that receive appointments after a year or two (or three) of college they will be starting the four-year SA experience from scratch.

I applaud the college re-applicants, but make sure you follow this course of action with your eyes wide open. Good luck.
