Principal Nomimation = Appointment?

My son received a principal nomination; however, he had a medical DQ. The academy submitted a waiver request, and we just learned the waiver was granted. Does this mean he will receive an appointment? (He's met the academic and fitness qualifications.) Is there a scenario where he might not receive an appointment?

From the other forums, principal nom does not equal automatic appointment these days.
The fact that the academy submitted a waiver request and it was granted leans highly in favor of an appointment being offered.
You'll know for-sure when that BFE arrives

Now I am confused. I thought as long as a student who has a principal nom that is medically, physically and academically qualified by the academy is appointed. If OP's son is physically, and academically qualified with a medical waiver wouldn't this technically make him 3Q meaning he will automatically receive an appointment since he has a principal nom? I know they can turn you a way with a principal nom if they don't deem you qualified but in OP's case I don't see how this could happen

If you read the threads from last year it certainly seemed as if a number of principal noms did NOT receive appointments. There were those that implied it hadn't ever happened that way before.

What happened last year was that a large amount of Representatives retired or were not re-elected. This resulted in the outgoing MOC declaring a principal nom and the incoming MOC declaring a principal nom as well. USNA received two slates and thus two principal nominees. They were not expecting the large amount of principal candidates and thus some unfortunately were not appointed. I think some were relegated to a waiting list and some went to Foundation Schools and NAPS.

I'm still learning the lingo. Can you clarify what a BFE is?

Principal Nomination...Medically cleared, academically cleared, physically cleared... = APPOINTMENT mandated by law!!!
