Principal Nomination to USAFA possible appointment to prep school?

What if 3Q+LOA+Nom, but not principal Nom in the slate (someone else has Principal Nom), still has risk of no appointment ?
I am more familiar with USMA. I write a long analytic about the chances are with your question in other post under national waiting list post. Yes. Still chances of no appointment, but small.

No. LOA won’t get principal usually because they already have LOa, MOc won’t waste the principal on LOA or Athletics who are USMA favorites. MOC’s goal is to secure as many appointments as possible for their district if they are qualified.

Every MOC has their own process, goals, and ideas, so such a blanket statement is not accurate. A qualified LOA with a nom will get an appointment, but the Academy has great latitude where to charge the appointment.

I am a little late but everyone should see the how the class develops and how they are charged:
  • MOC Nominations - 650 Openings (Assume 1 per plus 20% for the additional spot)
  • Presidential Nominations - 100 Openings
  • Service Connected Nominations - 100 Openings
  • Qualified Alternates - 150 Openings (This is the 150 of the NWL. Must be 2-1 ratio MOC to Service Connected
  • Additional Appointees - 200-300 Depending on class size. This is the LOA holders, recruited athletes, diversity candidates. The academy can choose by any criteria but must keep the 2-1 ratio.

What about the Prep Grads? Do they have their own Nom category?

So its not just 100 as stated above? Most prep appointments are ~200?
It is 100 slots, not 100 nominations. Everyone who qualifies (is an enlisted person as are all of the Preps) gets the nom but
only 100 will actually be in a prep "slot". The rest will be a combination of MOC noms, some could be slate winners as well
as additional appointees.

Keep in mind that this is a big shell game and why admissions ask applicants to apply for all nominations that the are eligible for. Once they application period closes, admissions starts to move everyone around to resolve the slates. A prepster could have an MOC nomination, a Presidential nomination and a service connected nomination. The could be slotted in any of the categories I described above. Reality is that the prepsters are intermixed across all the categories.
