I've seen "Principal Nomination" used a lot on these forums regarding MOC slates. Does it mean the #1 candidate on that MOC's slate? Or is it something else...

Some MOCs will put their nominations in order, and the Principal Nomination would indeed be #1 on their slate. This does not mean that particular candidate will receive an appointment over the others on that slate, but the odds are considerably better.

A slate that ranks candidates 1-10 is a different process for nominating than the Principal Nomination. Read the Nomination stickies for a complete explanation of the process.

A Principal Nomination essentially guarantees the recipient an appointment to the designated SA as long as the candidate is 3Q meeting all requirements for admissions. There have been a few exceptions reported here that USNA declined some PNominees who were 3Q’d however, but that’s not the norm.
If you receive one, be extremely grateful (maybe celebrate a little), but keep the hammer down!
Complete all remaining admissions requirements, continue to do well in school, workout and run, enjoy the time left at home, and stay healthy and out of trouble.
Run some more....
