I have an interesting question here. I'm wondering what would happen if a candidate was slated as principal nominee for an MOC but was currently waiting for decision on remedial? Would admissions select a different appointee for that vacancy? Or would that only apply if the principal nominee was Medical DQ?

This early in the process, they will keep working with the principal nominee

They will wait for a decision on medical qualification/waiver whether or not the apparent slate winner is a principal nominee. The process is complicated but, with a few exceptions, they will not offer an appointment to the lower ranked candidate until the higher ranked candidate has been disqualified.

They will also wait if two or more candidates are very close and more information is expected that could change the rankings. Remember, the application completion deadline is late February. These situations contribute to the frustration of the waiting game - you may be 3Q in December, but may have to wait until March/April on others.
