Principal Nominee Wait Time

Hello,

I have been selected as a principal nominee in a fairly competitive congressional district. As a result of being a re-applicant (had to wait until mid December to request professor letters of recommendation) my application was officially completed and pending review as of today. I was wondering if other principal nominees could chime in on how long they waited to receive a decision from USNA. I do not have an LOA nor do I know if I am triple qualified, but I am trying to gauge the average wait time to ease my anxiousness. I understand that a principal nomination is by no means a guaranteed appointment, but I have read some posts on SAF claiming a one week decision turnaround.

All replies are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

My DS received his letter of Principal Nomination (dated 1/18/17) on 1/21/17. The portal did not show his Nomination until 1/26/17...which is the date it notes it was received. To date, we have not been notified of an Appointment. My DS is FINE and CALM and I'm a hot mess! My understanding is that with USNA it is NOT a "guaranteed" appointment...but until I see a TWE, I'm staying positive! Best of luck, @mrdolphin - hope to see positive update very soon!

Thanks for the info and kind words. Fingers crossed for your son as well!

I have seen them as fast as a week and up to 8 weeks. Patience. With you being a re-applicant they might not have reviewed your file yet as they require your first semester transcripts.

It will happen, give it time.

Does the letter from your MOC or the portal indicate a Principle nomination? DD's letter just says "Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that our committee recommended you for a nomination for an appointment to the USNA. This nomination is evidence of strong academics, leadership and character. I am confident in your ability to succeed at the USNA."

Just some fluff following that little bit.

I want to call and ask. Thanks for any insight.

That sounds like DD's letter, which I have assumed to be a "regular" ranked or non-ranked slate rather than a Principal. Of the % of MOC's that use a Principal Nom, it seems like they have used the actual word Principal either in the letter or a phone call. There's nothing she can do about it at this point, so she never pushed the point with our MOC. Now, we wait...

Some MOCs don't put that language in their letters or call. Unless you specifically ask to verify you won't know. I didn't know until a few months later that I was a principal.

My MOC called (and the letter) specifically said it was a principal nomination

I'm sure it may be different for each district, just letting you know from my experience!

And how long did it take between your complete application and notification of your appointment?

So I called our MOC's office but was told the person to speak with was out until tomorrow. On the way home DD is texting, "CALL ME!!!" Our MOC called her at school today and told her of her appointment. Submitted app fully qualified on the 25th of January. Kind of numb now.

Exciting! Congratulations!!
