I sent my paper accepting my principal status to USMMA back in January. How long should it be until I receive further instructions or anyother important papers from the academy?

I heard our class should receive our orders sometime in May and we report July 8th. Congrats btw, I accepted mine last month.

Also, look into pre registering and obtaining your Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC). We must have it by the time we report. Once you pre-register you have to travel to the location in person with proper documents to register for it, and then you have to return to a location to pick it up a couple weeks later. The only locations are located at ports around the country. I know it's a hassle.. I live in Colorado and there aren't too many ports around here but I here it takes awhile so I'd try to take care of it asap.
Anyone who has any experience or knowledge about obtaining the TWIC, please add anything I've missed.

TWIC

If you live more than 200 miles from a location that handles TWIC cards, you don't have to obtain one before reporting. The academy makes arrangements for those folks to get their TWIC card in NYC after Indoc is over.

If you can I would get the TWIC card before, it is one more thing off the TO DO list

Yea I already have made arrangements for it and I would like to just get it out of the way.

Absolutely get the TWIC out of the way if at all possible. You'll have enough on your plate plebe year without worrying about that.

If you'd like an idea of what to expect, go to the usmma.edu webpage. At the very bottom is a link that says Logging In Book - Class of 2013 Reporting Instructions. The Class of 2014 instructions will be posted later in the Spring and may differ from these. But it gives you somewhere to start. If you're like us, you'll appreciate having any information you can get ahead of time. I know we needed the extra time to assure we had dental records and immunization records ready in time.

While we are on the subject of dental records. Make an appointment and get those wisdom teeth out before Indoc. You will be doing yourselves a great service. Once plebe year begins in earnest there will be little time for this.
The chances of your DS or DD going to sea with their wisdom teeth is practically zero.

KPMarineOpsDad is exactly correct. Do this as early as you can schedule it. Our DS wisdom teeth were going to be a potential issue. By the time we realized this, the only decision he had to make was whether he wanted 'Chipmunk Cheeks' for Prom or for Graduation.
Wisely, he wanted as much healing time as possible before he had to do the running in Indoc.

I know this is off topic but while planning ahead get those wisdom teeth out ASAP!!

Wisdom Teeth

My DD had 1 'nubbin' (only a bud of a tooth). The dentist at USMMA demanded that she have it removed because of the school policy. In consulting our home Dentist, he stated that it was absolutely not necessary as it had no roots, was not attached and it was not growing. For the last 2 sea years, all it has taken is another letter from home Dr. and Xrays to prove that it would be UN-necessary surgery. You can have your regular appointments at home, if your Dr. will submit the Xray and letter stating his findings the years you are at USMMA.
