I spend my summers in Guatemala and during my stay there I tried marijuana. It was five months ago and I would not do it again. Will I be disqualified for using it in another country where their rules are different?

Answer the DoDMERB question honestly and directly. Unless you have other baggage, this is unlikely to be a deal breaker.

Being in another country does not change the answer to "Do you have any previous history with marijuana?" Once again, answer honestly and this most likely will not be a deal breaker; however, if you lie and they find out... you will regret it.

As other "posters" have stated, it is probably not a deal breaker. However, you need to disclose it on all of your USAFA application material including DoDMERM. I believe on the USAFA application they will ask questions like when did it happen, how did it happen (being where it is legal isn't a defense), how did you feel about it, etc. Answer honestly. But most importantly, be consistent. If you end up attending a Service Academy or ROTC, you will be asked to disclose all drug use on many forms (like security clearances) so make sure you keep the date and circumstance consistent. Good luck.

Likewise, if you're in France and having wine with supper every night since you're ten, you're gonna have to tell them.

Unless this has changed since I have applied, alcohol use in itself is not discussed in your ALO interview; instead, the AF Form 2030 asks specifically about drug use and alcohol abuse. It certainly wouldn't hurt to be truthful about past alcohol use, but that is not what the form is asking. Just want to clarify for anyone out there who was wondering!

From AF Form 2030 posted above by @haleym. That should give you a good idea on what the standard is being disqualified for marijuana use.
Have you ever used or experimented with marijuana? (Prior marijuana use is not disqualifying for enlistment or appointment, unless you are determined to be a chronic user or psychologically dependent, have been convicted or adversely adjudicated for marijuana involvement. Preservice marijuana use may render you ineligible for certain skills.)
