I was wondering if getting my Private Pilots Licence would help me get into any service academy? Also does anyone know what the avg community service hours is to get in:confused::confused::confused:

My son is working towards his private pilots licence and a candidate for the class of 2016. It is only one of his many EC activities with a ton of leadership and strong athletics. I would guess that is is a plus but not probably as impressive as strong academics, leadership and athletics. He is working towards his licence because it is something he wants and not because it "looks good". I would encourage you do get involved in things because you want to and not because it can possible help you with your SA application. If getting your pilots licence is one of those things then GO FOR IT! Just remember the additional time needed to study for your license may take time away from your academics which is much more important in the end.

There is no "average community service hours" to "get in." Hours aren't the primary issue. More important is what the candidate does with the hours he/she devotes.

A private pilot's license is good but not necessarily better than other achievements. For future candidates, do it if you enjoy it and it's meaningful to you. Don't doit solely for SA purposes.

I second on this too. Do not try to do things "just because it looks good for my SA application."

I am proud to say I only have 2 "real" EC's, but I reached the top/ near the top in both (Eagle scout and OA Vigil Honor recipient, AF JROTC CADRE). If you love volunteering, keep that up too-it appears that consistency is the key. It might look on paper to participate in 12+ EC's, but have fun trying to explain what you did in each in an interview.

Thank Yo

I love fying and i do community service alot so i am not doing this just for the SA application. Thanks
