Hello!

I received a traffic ticket for "FAILURE TO OBEY PROPERLY PLACED TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE INSTRUCTIONS" a few months ago. I went to see the judge if I could get it dismissed and he gave me a PBJ (probation before judgment), basically meaning that there will be no conviction if I maintain a clean driving record for two years after the disposition. The USAFA Website states "If you are appointed to the United States Air Force Academy, any probation, deferred sentencing or community service must be completed prior to in-processing." Will this traffic probationary period disqualify me from being able to attend USAFA? It's been my dream for years and I really don't want my chances to be ruined over something as small as not coming to a complete stop.

Thank you so much!

Probation refers to something a lot more serious, don't report having that. It seems like that aligns more with deferred sentencing. From what I have heard that shouldn't effect you at all so long as you report it. I wouldn't sweat, just explain what it was and don't try to cover anything up / make excuses and you should be fine. Im sure many generals and U.S. presidents have rolled some stop signs.

I would contact your ALO (I believe that is what your admissions officer is called) just to make sure. Omissions can have a sneaky way of coming back to bite you...:) don't know all the legal "technicalities" of one probation vs another, best to check with someone qualified to give you an answer..:)

Considering most actual traffic tickets are not a problem - I HIGHLY doubt this would be as long as you are upfront about it. Don't report it under the category you mentioned - that is a different kind of probation. There should be somewhere else you can include that info. As @Impulsive suggested, you can always ask your ALO to be sure.

Don't loose sleep over this. You are good. It's a deferred traffic ticket. Contact admissions. My guess is at most they will ask you to email the judgment, and that will be it. This is not the type of "probation" SA's are concerned with. When you think about it, it's even better that you do have to report. There will be no way for you to break the terms of the probation while you in CS. 😆 Good luck this summer

The probation they're talking about is after a conviction as an alternative to imprisonment. A LOT more serious than what you got.
