I’m a afjrotc cadet, I’ve never met the flag detail guys until a few days ago, and didn’t know what to do when bumping into a situation where the flag is being raised or lowered. A hand salute then walk into the school? Or stand at attention until the process of lowering/ raising is over? Or report to a certain person in the detail... Stuff like this just gets me confused. Experienced folks can help me out?

Stop, stand at attention with your hand over your heart if in civvies or hand salute if in uniform until colors has been rendered then carry on smartly. If you can't see the colors then face where the anthem is being sounded from.

Funny story. Was in a golf tournament with three midshipmen, including my son, to raise money for their NROTC unit. It was held at a golf course at Ft. Jackson, NC. We were running late when the anthem started in the middle of my son's back swing. He dropped the club, immediately stood to attention, and faced where the sound was coming from. I couldn't understand what was going on until I noticed the other two midshipmen were also at attention.

Thanks for replying and did you mean present arms? Instead of hand salute?
