Promoted to Applicant

Your daughter will want to prepare for the CFA that she will take at AFA SS, but with the altitude, she may not want to 'use' the score. I often recommend to my students at NASS or SLE that they use their scores, but 7258' of altitude makes a big difference. Also, applications open July 1, so gathering some recommendations now as a Junior makes lots of sense depending upon the timelines required for her nominations from her MoCs. I hope she enjoys the seminar!

Also accepted to NASS, she will do CFA there, but good point about sea level. She lives at 1300', not even close to 7k+. LOR's are done, with Guidance Counselor , Math & English teachers. She got them done fall 22' as she thought she would need them for SS but the only academy that needed them so far was USCGA . Can she update them with more recent Junior/Senior year teachers? Meeting with local Congressman in April.

Yes, makes sense to update the LORs if anything can be added or updated through the individual teachers and other recommenders. Coaches, club sponsors, etc. are also a good idea to add some 'dimension' beyond academics.

Good info, my DD is still hanging in "pre-candidate" until she can get her non-qualifying science score up. Everything else is GTG so hopefully this will light a fire and get her primed for her next test.

What SAT score does my DS need to apply?

When does she take it again? DS is awaiting his latest SAT results from the Mar 11 exam and it always feels like it takes forever. Hoping it will be his last exam. Has she tried the SAT? It is just different enough from the ACT that students sometimes will do much better on one vs. the other.

In the meantime, he is working on his CFA and hoping to be done with it after SLE in June.

My DD has not taken the SAT, only the ACT. She is scheduled to retake in April and has been working on the science portion of the test. She's quickly learning that the ACT science test has little to do with actual science knowledge, but data interpretation. If she can't boost her score, we may look at the SAT. On a side note, she receive her notification that she's moved to the candidate phase.

I believe they will superscore across tests SAT/ACT so if she gets the chance to take the SAT it can't hurt.

USNA is the only one that superscores between the two tests. USAFA does superstore the subtests (math, reading, and writing) which is great. DS#1's USAFA SAT test score was 40 points higher than his USMA SAT score.
