Just got the email this morning for our DS. He had submitted his PCQ on March 11th, so they are already up to that date.

Don't forget the clock starts ticking from the day he opened his file; completion deadline will be sooner for him. Not a bad thing just can't procrastinate.

It's great to apply very early, but majority of the nomination interviews occur late Oct-Dec., with notification of nom in Jan or early Feb.?

True, but they start giving out appointments as early as October. Since, I'm applying to the LEAD program I can get a nomination in about a month or so.

Oh wow, guess earlier the better for LEAD candidates & those with early nom sources;) Best wishes to you!

Statement in the new Instructions to Candidates: ".. we encourage you to complete this package by early October if you started in July and within 45 days if you started later, to be considered for an early offer of appointment (prior to March). By completing your forms early you will receive timely feedback on what is necessary to make your application more competitive for an appointment."

Yes, earlier the better, I remember a girl who received her LOA late August the start of her senior year.

Don't worry about Noms; that is beyond your control as far as deadline is concerned. Just all the school forms; essays, letters of recommendation, and don't forget CFA !!! Not as much time to train for early deadlines.

Y'all are freaking me out! DS deadline is also October 31...what ticking clock? Is he supposed to have everything done by then, including nom interview? Is he really getting evaluated on how quickly he completes the application? Agh!!

The MOC nomination process is parallel to the USAFA process (check with each of your MOCs to validate what their deadlines are - they could very well be before your DS's stated USAFA submission deadline). The application portal lists everything that needs to be completed before the stated application deadline. I would not recommend waiting until the last day to submit any of this content.

I suggest putting together a calendar and marking deadlines. Also, think of USAFA and MOC nominations as completely separate applications with different deadlines. The advice we were given was to try to always be one of the first to complete both applications. My DS completed both quickly and received his nomination and appointment in January of his senior year. Just keep in mind while the USAFA dates vary they are controlled by USAFA while MOC set their own dates which can vary as long as the process is completed by the USAFA mandated deadline to them.

I agree with what was stated above. Complete your application early to increase your chance of getting an appointment. You can still get an LOAs as early as October (provided you finish your application in time). Do not feel discouraged if you don't get a nomination early on, you're still competitive. Just do you and persevere.

If he doesn't hear back about nominations before then, don't freak out. The nominations are sent directly to the academies as soon as they are available. The Academy will not disqualify him if he doesn't have his nomination by that date, because they know they might not be in yet. HOWEVER, the nominated candidates should be notified before then of their nomination.
