PTR

Does anyone know what the Midshipman Publicity Background Record card and the white envelope addressed to the dean of admissions (stamped with PAO) are? Do they go together? I couldn't find any info about them in the booklet or checklist. Maybe I missed something
I found that it was mentioned in a PTR Important Information booklet from a previous class. What it says is that once you fill out the card you mail it in the white envelope with the red PAO stamp on it.

Just get the kid a Passport. It can be done at many Post Offices and it is easy and it is issued through the State Department. They sometime need them for Summer Deployment.

I think I know what NavyHoops meant - USNA does not actually "issue" but facilitates the official request and submission through DOD channels to DOS. I got mine through my command, and it came to me via Govt mail at the command.

Yes what I meant. Thanks for clarifying! Always good to have one as a military member and easier to have one now than later when they decide to go to Mexico or somewhere for spring break.

DD had earliest report time--never thought I would forget it but was it 0615 (?). She slipped into Alumni Hall and I CELEBRATED--spent the morning skipping around the yard-filled with happiness and relief. Launched! DH went straight back to hotel, cried, mourned and missed the marvelous moment by the Mid store when off marched DD (on the third bus of the morning). I treasure those pictures! She had made it through the labyrinth--all parper work in order! Hooray! For those of you going through this process, you have no idea how great it is to drop a healthy plebe off at those doors. No flu, no twisted ankles, no disqualifying weird freak accident the week before I-Day etc. (You will hear about those unfortunate ones!). Celebrate!

This exact process was repeated 12 hours later when she took her oath and marched into Mother B. I was elated and filled with joy and pride while DH cried and thought about charging through the doors and taking her away. Point is this: everyone goes through this process differently. We passed a mom on the way out of the yard who was sobbing uncontrollably. No judgement--to each his own.

My DS has the 0615 report time.
Can parents and family come and go through gates 1 or 3 throughout I-Day? Or do they need special paperwork? We have Grandparents coming and they will not be able to be on the yard all day.

Access to the Yard is all day long with proper identification. Don't worry as you can come and go through one and three all day long. Eight is tougher.

Yes, just keep ID's handy (make sure your state issued drivers license is from an approved state--we found passports worked faster). You'll need to go on and off the yard several times just to drop off the swag from the Midstore! Last year the store ran out of the totes with the names of all of the class of 2020--so if you really want one of those, better get to the store early! Also, I recommend waiting by the Midstore to see your Mid (as opposed to the back of Alumni)--that's where you can see them in action. It's such an exciting day-enjoy every minute. Oh--and don't forget to stake out a tree where you will meet up again with your new plebe--otherwise, it's a little chaotic finding them. Spread out a blanket and have food and drinks (and Tide sticks) ready for them.

Stake out the Tree on Stribling , It can be very hot without shade. Bring food and drink and a cheap picnic blanket. The Midstore is a given. We never found our Mid getting off the Bus but had fun shopping. Get those totes and blue rims early before they are gone. Keep the Dixie Cup and buy another one. DD's sister still has one in her room. Don't know what happened to the original but I think DD and SIL still have them at home.

So it took us until the 17th of May, but we finally received the PTR packet. Apparently the first one was lost so they resent and extended deadlines for submission of forms. DS had filled out plenty of forms by just downloading them, and I suppose without this forum we would have just remained waiting fat, dumb and happy. Alls well that ends well!
