While chatting privately with another forum member, I shared a link for USPHS, one of the 7 Uniformed Services but not one of the 5 Armed Forces. (NOAA is the other uniformed but not armed officer corps).

For those who may be thinking about a career in service related to medicine, but are not finding the military route via SA, ROTC or HPSP not quite the right fit, USPHS offers a number of college programs. See link.

They enjoy the same salaries (including bonuses for certain specialties), benefits and privileges of other commissioned officers. They use Navy ranks and a Navy-style uniform and serve at home and abroad in a wide variety of fields.

If you or your DS/DD likes the idea of serving in uniform but aren't warriors in their hearts, this is a small, highly professional corps of officers who do important work.

My father was a commissioned officer in the USPHS and had a very distinguished and respected career. The USPHS paid for all of his undergraduate education, very much like ROTC. It's a a noble service!
