Put on Hold

Hello everyone! I applied for USMMA as a highschool senior, and would be class of 2024. Last night I got my admission decision, which is hold. While this could be disappointing for some, I am actually very thankful to hear this decision because it means I have a chance of getting in.

I do not want to sit and just wait for an appointment though; I want to be able to make myself a better candidate to help my chances of getting in. I can do this by updating my application in the portal. What do you all think would help me be a better candidate for the school? I already am taking the SAT again in March and am trying out for Varsity Lacrosse, but anything suggestions beyond that would be appreciated!

Also, do you all know if there is information anywhere on the sponsored prep school program? Who gets offered prep school, and how does offers for that work?

Thank you,
Jake

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't most candidates put on "hold" status and aren't very few directly appointed?

So what does it mean at this point if your status is still listed as App on file?
I would read that your package has either not been reviewed for an admissions decision, or that it has and was deferred for a decision at a later date.

I have no inside knowledge, but I would expect this to be a YES/NO/MAYBE/NO DECISION type scenario.

YES = APPOINT
NO = TWE
MAYBE = HOLD
NO DECISION = App on File

Are you sure your application is complete? Have you been qualified by DoDMERB? Sometimes your status remains as App on file when there is a DoDMERB issue.

I was on app on file till one Saturday morning (April 1st) I got a call from the congressman. The portal changed a few days later.

Thanks for the feedback Mr2020. I have enjoyed reading your posts on this forum, as I think they are an honest and unique perspective. Many people tend to romanticize USMMA, so I appreciate your honest take of USMMA.

No problem. Send me a message and we can talk further if you want. I'll give you the rundown as a '19 grad.

I can only speak to our son's experience, but his portal was 'app on file' since completion and no MOC call, just portal change with appointment offer randomly, and BFE on porch same day portal changed.

Application is complete. DS even contacted his admissions officer to verify there was nothing outstanding. And his DODMERB has been complete and qualified since summer. Thanks.

DS just got a call from his Congressman's office yesterday, informing him that he had received an appointment to USMMA. His portal still shows App on File, which I am sure will change in a few day. From what I understand, the academy gives the nominating source a few days to make the notification before they update the portal. My point here is, I guess, "App on File" really give no indication of where the application is in the review process. If it says App on file I guess it could mean anything form, we haven't looked at your application yet, to you got an appointment but haven't been notified yet......LOL

Can I ask what State you are in?

My DS recieved a call from his congressman yesterday, as well. His app status shows as "on hold". This was a pleasant surprise, as we were nevously awaiting results of his waiver review. A request for AMI was submitted about 15 business days ago, so pretty quick turn around for what I imagine is a very busy and high volume period for the waiver review boards.
