Hey guys, just posting this to give some future candidates some hope when dealing with peanut allergies and dodmerb. I tested severely positive for peanuts on a blood and skin test in January and immediately began oral immunotherapy that culminated into passing a full oral challenge. This was all over the span of five months and was completed before my initial exams.

After providing proof of my passing I submitted my physical and paperwork to dodmerb and was placed on administrative remedial. They just needed some further documentation and I was met with an email saying I had been qualified for NROTC and AROTC.

While passing a full oral challenge is not possible for all, I hope it does give some hope to anyone trying to get over this obstacle in the future. I was never disqualified from the start either. The key is being proactive and doing the things necessary to take care of your allergy. If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out.

A few more years of research, and peanut allergy will likely be a non-issue.

As your allergist likely told you, regularly consume peanuts to keep that tolerance up-- remission is common for those that do not.

Congrats, I'm glad to hear another OIT success story!

I have a peanut allergy as well and have gone through OIT as well, I’m also interested in USAFA, this is great news. I have also passed a peanut challenge about a year ago!

Was your oral challenge done at a DoDMERB designated facility? How many peanuts met the oral challenge? Can you give any advice or tips about this process? My DS is finishing up his immunotherapy and expects to have all his medical records emailed to DoDMERB to start the waiver process. Thanks in advance.

I did my challenge at a local allergist, I had to eat 24 peanuts
