I just saw a comment on another thread about the April 11 open house for 2015 appointees. Does anyone know whether this is a "must attend" event. I understand that it's not "required", but is it something that is worth funding a plane ticket etc?

Save your money if it is an expensive plane ticket. My DS and I went to the event in 2009 and it was interesting and informative. We had never visited Kings Point before and DS was still weighing his options. It was worthwhile for us, but if you have already visited and your course is set, I would skip it (especially with the current cost of airfare!)

Second that

I have to agree with kpmom. It is an informative event but is in no way a "must attend". We went last year and it was great but we are within reasonable driving distance.

My thoughts would be:

If you can easily drive it: go
If you have to fly or drive more than a few hours: skip it

What all does the Orientation consist of? It isn't the same as the Open House in August, is it?

Thank you for the advice -- DS will skip it and we'll save the $$$ to splurge on parent's weekend

Wise choice IMO, parent's weekend is always something good for both parents and the new class to look forward to, and as long as the rain holds off, it's a lovely time of year on campus.

Agree with Jasperdog. Parents Weekend is really a big deal and if you only have the funds for one, then by all means Parents Weekend.

If you want more information about the 11 April Openhouse, including tentative schedule and special hotel rates, visit the USMMA National Parents Association website at http://site.usmmanationalparentsassociation.info

Cudos to the Parent Association for negotiating great rates at the Long Island Marriott:thumb:

When reserving our room, the reservationists asked me if I had stayed with them before.....and I had....18 years before I was there on business, pregnant with my first son....the son that is now going to KP! They grow up soooooooo fast:rolleyes:
