Question about bank accounts

Hello all,

Is there a Military Credit Union in Annapolis that midshipmen qualify to use or should my DS set up an new bank account? His current account is with a local California bank with no branches in Maryland.

Great question! We are wondering about that as well. However, I can say that your DS is eligible to contact USAA for banking, car loans and insurance. If not now, immediately following I-Day. Just something to check into.

There is an NFCU branch on the Yard, and a USAA branch right outside Gate 1. NFCU may be slightly more convenient because plebes can't leave the Yard except on Saturdays, so if they need cash they'd have to wait. Last year there was NFCU account opening information in the PTR package. DS has accounts at both, but doesn't use the USAA account much. When they are eligible for their 2/C loans, there are differences between the two that they will want to look at, but NFCU is probably the best best starting out.

NFCU, as the on-Yard credit union, is allowed to put an application in the Permit to Report package. They have two ATM locations on the Yard.
