Hello community,
Today, i got a letter from USAFA stating "congratulations! based on the application you submitted for the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar, we have determined that you have the potential to compete for an appointment at the Air Force Academy"

What does this letter mean? I am kind of confused because it sounds like I got accepted into the Summer Seminar but not really. Is this a good sign? Do all candidates get this mail?

Thank you very much.
Dave

DS got the same letter earlier this week. We took it to mean exactly what it says...that he "has the potential to compete for an appointment to the Air Force Academy" and they want to encourage him to apply for admissions. While we'd like to think it meant that he has some sort of "edge", I don't think that is the case...I just believe that he has met the basic requirements they are looking for and want to keep him interested. It was a good "morale boost" and definitely did its job as it keeps him interested in the AFA as he counts down the days to the start of AFA Summer Seminar.

lol, DD got two of these letters the other day, exactly the same, I guess they want her twice as much, haha.
Our vvcff (very very close family friend) ok, now that she's in, I'll give it up, my sons girlfriend, got the opposite letter last June, saying even though she was accepted to summer seminar she wasn't, at that time, competitive for appointment. She then rcvd an LOA in October, and will be headed to USAFA in June, so don't despair if you don't get this letter or if yours says something on the order of GF's letter.

I was not accepted to SS but I did receive the same letter you did. I was confused at first too, but as others said, I think it just means you met very basic requirements and can continue with the app process

Remember, you can still be competitive and get an appointment without being accepted to Summer Seminar.

When you apply for Summer Seminar, it replaces your PCQ that you have to take when you start an application. They saw your SS app and deemed you competitive for an appointment and are recommending you start an application.

DS was accepted to summer seminar last year - got a TWE this year. It doesn't help you get an appointment - but it lets you see what it's all about.
