Question about mandatory doctors appointments?

Hello,
I am currently a freshman here at USAFA. I am only 18, so I don’t really know the answer to this. Do any current cadets or alumni know if “well woman visits” are mandatory/scheduled for you? I’ve heard that this is the case for enlisted servicewomen. Thank you for your time!

I'm a sophomore and have never had one, but I know that you are welcome to schedule your own.

Just because you're young and seemingly invincible, you should still get medical, dental, vision, and hearing check ups once per year.
It is especially important to have a pelvic exam and Pap smear every three (3) years, starting at age 21.
They say you should also do a breast self-exam periodically, but a mammogram isn't usually necessary until the age of 40.

Armed with that knowledge, ask an upperclassman (who actually does it) how they go about scheduling it.

Well woman visits are technically mandatory after you turn 21, but it can take a while for them to schedule you for it. Hoodlum is right, though, if you need/want any of those related services or exams, just make an appointment.

Actually, 21 or once sexually active, which, unfortunately these days, for too many, can be several years before 21.

I meant mandatory from the perspective of USAFA. 21st birthday is traditionally when they start to schedule the visits.

Unfortunately? I mean, it's kinda just part of normal, young people, human sexuality. I won't slut-shame anyone for their choices for their bodies. But, maybe that's just me...

Does USAFA schedule it for you?

"Slut-shame" ... admitting that some people might not approve of teenagers having sexual relations means you're just as judgmental as those judging those teenagers.

Perhaps some adults realize the consequences which can wreak havoc with young people's futures once they jump into that pool - especially when their bodies are mature but their emotions are not.

And, to save oneself for one's spouse is a great gift. Don't knock it.

Huh, perhaps some adults realize that's how humans, hormones and sexuality works. Whatever. Go ahead and judge, it makes you just as bad as me.

Uhm, I would guess that deciding what you get to do with your OWN body would be just fine- judging others for what they decide to do with their own personal body would be kind of rude.

(PS I DID save myself for my husband, but that doesn't make me one tiny bit better than anyone who makes a different choice than me.)

All, my statement above was never intended as "slut-shaming" as many are suggesting. I was trying to make the point that per family practitioners and gynecologists, the 21-year-old recommendation is only for those not already sexually active. And, to me, being active at 12 - 15 years of age is a bit disheartening because of the possible consequences of STDs as well as pregnancy, which can alter that young lady's future considerably.
