My son was our rep's principle nom to USAFA, and also got on a senator's slate for USAFA. He also got on the rep's slate for West Point. Even though they were still waiting to clear waivers for a football injury, he received his appointment to USAFA back in January. We're assuming the principle nom was the reason he was so quickly appointed. Now that he's cleared waivers for both USAFA and USMA, he's been put on the national wait list for USMA. He's leaning USAFA, but there are parts of USMA that really appeal to him, and if given a choice, may be interested in choosing them.

What are the recommendations for handling this acceptance in this scenario? What are the implications of continuing to wait for USMA before accepting or declining USAFA? What about if he accepts now, and if he were to get a USMA appt and if he were to change his mind, what are the implications there?

You have a deadline to accept. Use all the time you need to make your decision, mindful of the deadline.

There are instructions in the Appointee handbook if you change your mind after accepting.
